I always fill with 97 but leave the button at 95. Don't know how much difference this makes to the power of the engine but its still quick enough!

So what do fellow RR's run at? I guess I am a bit paranoid of the engine after having it blow up on me after a months ownership...

On the 97 setting it just advances the ignition by a couple of degrees, so that it sparks earlier, to make use of the higher octane content in the fuel.

It's two degrees at idle, you can see the advance if you connect your laptop to the ecu and look at the ignition reading on the first page, but I'm unsure if it scales as you increase engine speed or is just a static addition.

I always start the car on the 95 setting regardless of what fuel is in, reason being the later spark on the 95 setting makes it easier to crank the engine and then switch to the correct fuel.

The button doesn't do anything else. I guess you could look at the RR button like a tuning box that has, instead of a potentiometer, just two resistors corresponding to set 7 and 9 degree ignition timing. (I might be wrong on the 7&9 I can't remember off the top of my head!)

Yeah, I know what it does. Pretty sure it selects a different timing map though rather than advance by an addtional number. Only reason I run at 95 with 97 fuel is for the additional knock protection that it would offer. I think the tune is fairly agressive so happy with '95' at the mo. Will try the '97' setting after I get bored wink

ETA: Interesting though re starting. I have an Adpatronic in my MX5 and the crank settings are unaffected by the ignition map. Ie you specify the timing for cranking and once it passes the threshold rpm goes into the post crank enrichment and timing effort adjustments based off the fuel and timing maps. If the Cerbera ECU doesn't do something similar, would be very basic.

oh right, if it has an original ecu I'm pretty sure it has only one fuel map and all the button does is advance the ignition timing a bit.

I fill mine with super unleaded and leave it permanently on 97. Seems to start literally on the button- might try starting it in 95 mode to see if there is a noticeable difference.

I ll be fitting my Red Rose button this weekend as the car is going off for mapping very soon. It will be intresting to see what effect if any the button does when it comes back.

No it does just retard the ignition by a fixed amount. As aide says it uses a mapping box input and applies a fixed resistance.
It also needs changes in the EPROM to enable the input and apply the change to the ignition timing.

I fitted one a few years ago to my 4.2 after I'd worked out the ECU tweaks needed. It retards by 3.9 degrees when switched to 95.

Right ive had 3 griffs and at least 7 chimaera over the years, ive just bought a nice 500 chim and have started another thread regarding the fact it pinks, now to cut to the chase I have a button just in front of the ignition key, when I push this button there is a click noise from the fuse/relay/ecu area nothing else seems to change its not the dash light button so I have two on the kick panel above your knees that is standard on all Ive owned, but this other button I dont understand the best thing is it doesnt pink when I push it I wasnt aware of a RR button on a chimaera but TBF its only the 2nd 500 Ive owned I retailed the first very quickly anyone able to confirm what this is please?
Thanks
