Welcome to the madhouse!

With the air con, is the compressor cutting in when you press the button? If so do you briefly get cold air then it warms up again? If that is the case it could be the expansion valve icing up and preventing it from working properly.

There is a master temperature control for the air con hidden up under the drivers side scuttle panel, it is usually cable-tied to the crossbar behind the dashboard. It looks like a rheostat without a knob. You could try adjusting that, but go gently as it is a fairly sensitive adjustment. Turn it too far and the expansion valve will ice up.

Cheers for the information I will have a look at that and see if it does the job, I don't remember hearing the compressor kicking in! will have to check it out later, I've just bought the car and just starting to find problems hear and there.

Thanks again

The test should have been done with the compressor running - static pressure only tells you that it is not empty and is proportional to the ambient temperature. Most car aircon places (dare I say it even Kwikst!) should be able to diagnose the problem.
