Sorry Team,

I was just looking at my "Owner's Maual" laugh in orer to try and get some dimensions for an article that I'm doing and the figures quoted in it are complete vomit.

Do any of you know the Bore and Stoke dimensions for the 4.2 and the 4.5

Ta !

Mr. Dummy confused

Cheers Steve, that's what it says in the handbook too.
Strangely enough it quotes larger dimensions for the smaller engine:-
4.2: 94 bore, 91 stroke.

There is some puzzlement scratchchin

Hi Mr. Cerbera,

according to my handbook from 2001:

4.5: 91x86 - 4.475 cc in total (seems correct)
4.2: 94x90 - 4.997 cc in total (definitely nonsense)

Oh well, Glad to see that there's some (in)consistency laugh

My maths is crap but I thought that the volume of a cylinder was
(Pie x R squared) x Bore

So for 94 x 90 = 4,998 ltrs
and for 91 x 86 = 4,476 ltrs (Presumably the 4.5 Ltr)

What have I missed ??

Its 88mm bore and 86mm stroke for the 4.2 AJP8....

[ [8.8 x 8.8 x Pi]/4 x 8.6] x 8 (cylinders!) = 4184.5cc

The stroke is the same as the 4.5, the only difference is the wider bore of the liners. 4.7 bores are wider still.......

Forgive my stupidity but why are you dividing by Four ??

88mm is the bore diameter rather than the radius.

volume of a cylinder from radius = pi * r^2 * h
or
volume of a cylinder from diameter = (pi * d^2)/4 * h

Radius = 4.4cm
pi * 4.4^2 * 8.6 = 523.06cc
8 cylinders
523.06 * 8 = 4184.5cc
