Dear All
,
My MIL light has started to come on occasionally. I have tried to analyse when it does but can find no consistency at all. Sometimes it is the light and sometimes the buzzer comes on too.
I had to put some 95 in a couple of fills ago and the MIL came on more frequently then. It appears to be coming on less fequently now though so I wondered if it would be prompted by pre-ignition ?
Also, the last time I assembled the exhaust, one of my Cats felt as if it had become loose within its pipe. I have also fitted new Lambdas.
Could any of these elements contribute to the MIL light's awekening ?
Thanks for any help you can offer.
I presume that to find the problem that I will have to check the ECU. I have the software but have no idea how to coonect my laptop which only has USBs and a 15-pin socket to the ECU.
I have seen the following diagram for a "9-way D-Type socket" and wondered if anyone how to wire-up for a USB (if it is possible).

Thanks, for ANY advice,
Mr. Dullo

You need something like one of these instead of the cable above http://www.maplin.co.uk/usb-to-serial-9-pin-male-a... to go to the USB port.
Make sure you set the virtual port as COM1 (in device mangler, assuming windows) as that is what the software defaults to.
The software is the only way to tell for sure why the MIL is coming on.
