Could be one of many things...
Is battery fully charged?
Have you tried holding the button in?
Could be your starter.
Could be the alarm/immob
Could be an earth....

Might be lucky and find its the Ignition Relay - mine was (its in the fuse panel, Part No.MO383)

Though more likely immobiliser in which case give Carl Baker a call - http://www.tvruk.tv/www.tvruk.tv/index.html

The following has been known to work as a get you home solution for a member on here - see extract below

"There are relays in the immobiliser which stick with old age. If you have the problem, press and hold down the black button and thump the helmet hole area (I recall using a 2l water bottle to reach) "

There is a 30 amp fuse in the boot (fuse number 10 near the front of the box) for the starter relay.

Look at the connections on the starter, you will see a thick red wire and a black wire with a grey plug on it near the starter. Pull the grey connector apart and check for 12 volts while you press the start button, there is no corrosion inside the connector, and that there is battery voltage all the time on the thick red wire. If both of these check out ok it's likely the starter solenoid is faulty.

You can see it from above, look down the back of the engine, you will see it in the middle. The small cylinder on top of the starter is the solenoid. You could also try and give it a bit of a tap with the handle of a hammer to see if it is sticking...

All off the above plus the connection in to the Immob box it self. Mine worked lose and did the same as yours so worth a look as well it is a quick and easy check before ripping in to anything.

I checked all of the above (and temporarily bypassed the immobiliser starter circuit) but it turned out to just be the black ignition/starter button itself.

Sound like you could have a grounding problem check the cable coming off the negative on the battery and follow it down to the chassis where is should be attached. Just check that first as if you have an earth problem it can cause a fire so check it quick

i am beginning to find that when the battery is low instead of it fireing up immedieately it takes a second or 2 or 3 , after being run for a while it will then start imedieately again , but i am some how losing battery charge very quickly over night (the battery is good i v had it checked) , i have now got a 10w solar pannel on the dash and am hoping that i wont have any issues ( since it got flooded the other night it hasnt been well and seems more dead than usual )

Not sure that a solar charger will do much at night wink

I know this sounds weird, but if it happens again, keep the starter button pressed and put the windows up and down until it starts.

I don't know either, but it worked for me until I got the new starter motor - then I never had the problem again.

Immobiliser.

The starter motor circuit in it has most likely failed.

It's a common fault.

That section can be bypassed (temporarily) to get you on the road.

The other circuits through the immobiliser will remain active and your car will be protected.

Carl Baker is the man you need for a lasting fix.
