Hey everyone,

As part of my nut and bolt strip/rebuild, I am looking to replace the wheel hub/bearings with new.

Have located the alternative Jeep part from the sticky and found much cheaper suppliers from the US over the UK, including transatlantic shipping!!

But, the hubs/bearings I've found are either labelled as Timken ($91)....or non-Timken for $48. I dont really mind paying $91 as its still about half the price of the bearings from Power/RaceTech/RG. But, am I paying extra for something that's not really much of a gain or quality improvement?

Cheers
SteveC

Timken bearings are definitely better quality IMHO. Just watch it if you are importing, the customs fees and VAT can come as a bit of a shock, not to mention the courier whacking on a dirty great handling charge on top for dealing with customs.

Yeah have read up on Customs charges and should still turn out cheaper for these US Timkens over non-Timkens bought from the usual UK parts suppliers.

Be careful buying any bearings that appear cheap whether they are a named brand or not, there are a lot of counterfeit bearings floating around that are poor quality and don't last long

Yeah I called those guys up. Pretty helpful. Not Timken, but if sourcing them gets more painful, then I'll probably go with something like that.

Try

Rockauto.com

They are in the US, Include all shipping Import Duties on there site.
I have used them three times (Honda Parts) and the service is 1st rate and competitive.

I orderd an ABS sensor recently, it took six days to arrive and i saved £170 on UK prices

Try your local bearing suppliers. Eriks or Brammer. They maybe able to match something for you.

I ordered some ford explorer parts from the USA with all duties etc paid. It was grabbed by UK customs who wanted VAT and also charged me £38.00 "handling" to grab it and write to me to tell me they had grabbed it. Given that these bearings can be had off ebay for £80.00 each I doubt this will have a happy ending.

By the way, make sure you get the correct ones as on of the Jeep variants has a 5x120 PCD.

Guess which ones I got and only realised when I went to put the wheels back on 3 days before going to Le Mans....

Still made it though. smile

If you can get the Timken bearing then I would, mate has an exige that used to eat the original bearings, Timken ones fitted last time and no further issues.

Way better items if you can get them.
