Smirking aside (!) my knob has gone stiff! It seems to have jammed in the open position (it was tight to undo) and now I can't turn it back to re-lock the bonnet...

Is there a grease point or a way of loosening the mechanism??

Many thanks in advance

Simon.

I had the same problem, the knurled knob has a screw that fixes it to the shaft, I think its possible for it to get jammed on a ball bearing that locates the locked/unlocked position, you can loosen the screw and adjust it for tightness. I beleive you shouldn't leave it too loose as it can unlock due to vibration, but I've not experienced this.

Have you tried to slacken off the grub screw on the underside of the shaft?

Edit - just realised i've repeated the above post - oh well it was a good suggestion!!!

If your knob is stiff pull it towards you and turn.

Have somebody lift and lower the bonnet near the screen as you pull and turn. You may have to do a little pulling and pushing but it will work.

I have to say i have had the same problem with mine and no amount of pulling /pushing/turning once my bonnet release knob had tightened would release it i just had to loosen the allen cap screw that had been fitted to replace the grub screw and all was fine again, nice smooth action, sorted.

She grabbed the knob firmly and gave it a forceful twist. My nuts tightened.

That's the problem... The rod expanded into the rubber hole and friction has caused the stiffness. You need a little lube and a gentle touch.
