Fuel Pressure regulator types ??

Hi Folks,
Currently running through easy fix options for my current misfire issues and it has been sugested I look at possible dodgy Fuel Pressure regulator.
I know replacement regulators can be bought off the shelf, but what about these fancy billet adjustable ones that are out there for sale? Could we use one of these and benefit from the adjuster side of things? Or just stick with the standard replacement?
What goes wrong with these things and what causes it also?
Have any of you swapped for alternative regulators, if so what did you go for?
