Dear ECU Geniuses,

I am trying to connect my laptop to my ECU and have no idea where to stick it yikes
This is the ECU….

…. and this is the interface. Am I correct in thinking that the sticky-out bit is, in fact, a lever with which to separate the plug from the socket ?? It seems very stiff ATM (Oeerrr !)

Anybody have any suggestions ?
( …apart from the obvious)

Unscrew the 4 screws from the lid. The plate lifts off and underneath (in my case) is a serial connector.

Pull the silver lever towards you, this allows the plug to separate from the ECU.

You may have a three pin flying lead emanating from the plug, apparently you can use this instead of opening the ECU itself, however I have not tried this so you will need advice from someone who has.

Cheers Dave,

I have gained access as you suggested and have a serial/USB converter plug which I thought was going to plug staright in…..

but, apart from the 55-pin plug that’s already stuck in the Box, I can’t find where in there it’s supposed to go….

This Black Bit looks the only area big enough to accept it (although I have no idea what it is and haven’t plucked up enough courage to poke around with it yet yikes)

Got any further advice for a Dullo ??

That serial plug isn't going anywhere, you simply don't have a socket on your board.

Plan B is to use the flying lead I mentioned earlier, but you will need a wiring diagram.

yes

DO NOT PULL that "cover" off, its not a cover!

you have an ECU that doesn't have a serial port on the board, you need to get the later cable to connect it up

like this I think http://www.tvrpower.co.uk/store/slug/ecu-to-comput...

you should have another lead coming of the ecu with this connection

One of wires that come out of the ECU plug should have a plug on the end of it.

the three pin plug is the diagnostics one .. the 2 pin plug is for the fault code reader that was shipped to dealers in the early days. I don't know anyone who uses it, it was rubbish.
