So I got her up on stands today to begin a few jobs.

I had long suspected an intermittent fuel leak and today I found the culprit!

You can't quite see but on the pic but there is a split in the pipe at the top just above the cable tie. This pipe runs between the pump and the filter (I think). You can see where the fuel has cleaned the pipe and the waxoil off the chassis around it!

For those of you who have done this. What's the best method of replacing this section without getting covered in fuel and what are all the parts I should need and from where?

Thanks, Adam

Remove, take to Pirtek or Hyphose. Ask them to remake using decent fuel proof fuel hose (Nitrile lined), refit. Job done.

Do the others while you are at it, engine bay and to and from filter etc.

Will save you having a fire!

How much is in your tank bud?

Probably about a quarter of a tank Scotty.

I would like to do it myself to be honest, albeit with better quality hoses. That's how I look at these things, fix it but with a better solution!

Found these stainless braided lines from racing green. I gather these are PTFE lined but need to check.

Will I be needing any other connectors?

Anyone able to confirm this is fine? Just keen to get parts ordered. Thanks.

Hi,

This was the first job I did on mine! I just removed the old line + banjo's and took it to my local Pirtek where they made a new hose, re-fitted same banjo connectors in new PTFE flexi-hose. Cost was about £14.

Be prepared for about 0.5l of fuel from filter/pump to piss everywhere, have a couple of super soaker pads and a fire extinguisher handy juuuuuuust in case!

Not sure what advantage braided gives you, and as yours is cable tied to the chassis upright, before buying the new hose, just check to see how much abrasion there has been by it rubbing and if needs braided. Also best to buy new copper "O" rings when re-fitting, and unlike me, dont forget to anneal them before fitting otherwise you may struggle to get a good seal to the banjo's and have yet more fuel pissing everywhere when you start it up!!

They look last like the right hoses. But I would take the old ones to pirtek and get to make you some up.

Thanks for that.

Any ideas on what specific O rings you used, I assume you were able to re-use the old banjo bolts? I'll be taking the hose off soon in any case to have a look.

Well these braided ones are the only ones I can find online at the moment, I guess it does offer some protection from flying debris off the rear wheel perhaps? It says they come ready with banjo connections at both ends

Yeah I thought there might be a bit of fuel to come out so I shall be prepared!

You pays your money and takes your choice on flexi or braided I guess. I'm not knowledgeable or experienced enough to say if one is better or preferable to the other. The old one was on for 15 years until it split, so I didn't have much though about replacing like-for-like.

Cant remember exact size of the o rings, think I just took them to B&Q and bought a box of assorted sizes that had the right ones in, but I think the filter banjo was bigger than the pump one on mine so mark up the ends just in case!

Also be quite prudent to have a look all the the fuel hoses too, especially engine bay, if none of them have been replaced recently or at all.

Sound advice, I certainly will be checking over the lines.

I'll get the hose off in the next couple of days and go from there.

I shall just put my oar in and say i was rather disappointed by Pirtek in Swindon. The only pipe they had was a cloth braided rubber and they had no fittings so they re used the old ones. This is OK under the bonnet but in the rear of the car the fittings tend to be fairly rusty.
