oil dipstick

i have noticed on a lot of engine pictures that the dipstick is located on the front of the engine on the left hand side but mine is at the rear of the engine can anybody shed light on this (all4.2)

It just means you have a earlier engine. I think the later ones changed around 98/99

I may be wrong but I believe the earlier engines had it at the back. The 4.5's had them at the front. Later 4.2's had the 4.5 block's there fore they have them at the front. My 98, 4.2 has it at the back.

My 99 4.2 has it on the front. Same with sump plugs some have 2 some only 1.

Early 4.2s were the only engines with the dipstick at the back; it changed around 98 I believe.

errr i have a late and an early engine and both are at the back i guess suggesting in true tvr fashion that they fitted whatever was to hand

I think the actual hole it goes into is at the back any way so the only difference is the tube that carries the dip stick to the point of the sump.

My 4.2 is registered April 1997 and it has the dipstick in front of engine...

And engine number matches the one on VIN plate.

Ye spoke to andy at apm and the only way to see if its an early 4.2 is the sump drain plug mine is a very early 98 with one plug but with tvr you never know
