Just tried to start my car this morning, the battery was ok and the car turned, but the oil pressure light came on just as it started. The oil pressure immediately jumped to 3 bar, and was heading for 4 when I turned it off! Now, the car does have great oil pressure, normally sits around 6bar from cold and the light does come on until it settles around 5 once it's a bit warmer.

Is this anything to worry about? The car has plenty of oil and did not hesitate to start at all. I read about putting some oil in the bores, but I don't have any spare oil around at the moment.

Cheers.

Think how thick the oil will be from the cold.

If everything seems ok from before the "parked up for winter" then hopefully nothing to worry about. You could start it and look down the filler cap and look for oil to make you happy oil is lubricating.

the car is now in a warmed garage, around 10 degrees so I don't think the cold will be too much of an issue. I think I will use the oil warmer and see how that goes, thin it out a little before trying again. thanks for the confirmation, oil pressure warnings make me paranoid!

My Cerb hates the cold so I used to fire my gas heater on for 30 mins when it was sub zero and it started no problem. My car was layed up for 7 months last year and it fired up no problem just got it running and kept a close eye on everything. There more hardy than you would think. smile
