Booked the cerb into Austec's for some work today, backed him out the garage, got out to lock up (must get an automatic garage closer!), car stalled. OK, shouldnt be a problem, hit the starter button.....
churn churn....clank crash, clank crash, clank crash...whhiiiiiinne!
So that'll be the starter motor then? I'm sure he knew where he was off to, saw the rain and decided he didnt want to play.
Not sure what goes wrong when a starter motor fails, but it sounds damn nasty. The previous custodian had a starter fitted about 12 months ago, do they go that regularly?
Austec are sending someone to collect the car this afternoon, so I may still yet get a go on their new rolling road

Cheers Baz, I will do. Would they be covered on a 5 star warranty? Is it worth claiming for something like this or should I not irritate the warranty company and wait for a 'biggie' before making a claim? (I have paid for it in my mind already, I mean, how expensive can it be?
)
3 in 6 months? OMG, think I'll buy starter motors in bulk and store them safely!

Basically buying insurance against mechanical breakdown. Items covered generally dependant on level of warranty taken.
Do a search for warranty on Pistonheads, I'm pretty sure you will find plenty of reading.
FYI my warranty is with Warranty Management Services, but there are others out there, some good, some bad, some awful by the sounds of it. It has been said before, but a lot of warranty companies will try to wriggle out of paying a claim if at all possible.
Costs generally between £400-£750, I believe. Dont ak Baz, he probably got a nice 3 year warranty with his never goes wrong Saab FOC

If you've got a warranty, use it. That's what it's there for. Get every last penny at every last opportunity out of it, as you never know when/why something'll get turned down. If you ring them up when a gearbox lets go and say "Please will you pay out on this one, as I didn't bother to ring you when the starter motor went", do you think they'll care??

Hi Nick, I was actually on about a warranty on the part - if it was dealer fitted less than 12 months ago you MIGHT not have to bother your warranty company.
And for the record, you CANNOT go wrong with the £54 AA warranty, claimed a plenty on mine, always paid out, always recovered the vehicle to where I wanted all for £54!!

Do they go that regularly? try 3 in 6 months!! lol
It is a hell of a noise when they let go, but it only takes 5 mins to slap a new one on - maybe worth finding out if t'other one is still under warranty?
fookin h*ll .. if you can do them in 5 mins you can do all mine then .. quickest I've ever done one is 38minutes from drive in to drive out ( i timed it so I knew what the absolute fastest time is, lol) .. most take an hour though if you take a bit more care over things...
Yes Baz, I assumed as much. So you have an AA warranty aswell as a normal one? For the smaller items? Ive got the normal AA Home Start thiny, gunna have a look at their website to see what I can find about warranties.
Is there any restrictions on how many warranties you have on a vehicle? Some normal insurances only allow one policy (obviously) but I guess mechanical warranty companies couldt give a French Connection as it may mean you may not claim on their policy?

The wording of every 3rd party warranty policy that I've read (in detail) states that if you have another warranty, then you can't claim on theirs. How they'd find this out is another matter...
Baz, what have you done? No quibble on the AA payouts? Tried to get a quote for the Cerb on the AA's website. Went through the drop down boxes...TVR...Cerbera...4.5...oops, get the following message:.......
Unfortunately you have selected a category of vehicle for which we cannot currently provide cover. We will soon be adding more Warranty products to the site and so may be able to cover your car in due course. If you wish we can contact you when we are able to cover your car (leave email etc)...........
I think it also said something about being BigBazza's fault

Oh yeah, it'll be my fault!! Didn't have any other cover, I WAS with Warranty Holdings but after refusing to pay out due to some bullshit or other I sacked them off and went with AA - They don't seem to be advertising the warranty too much these days, thing maybe they got stung a bit (by me, and oh yeah, by me again!!)
Joo, it took the lads at the factory 15mins tops to change my starter, from rolling up the shutter door to getting back in....you need to get practising lol

It's 6 months on starter motors if I remember rightly.
Nick,
Sorry to hear that the starter has gone, when it went the first time it played up for weeks before finally failing. Street sorted it out under the warranty and if I remember they are not cheap (£400. So claim, after the trouble we had with the warranty company might be good to get something back.
The AA will cover the Cerbera, you where looking at the wrong product, see here:-

Nick, my starter motor went a while back, right after i accidentally stalled her reversing out of the drive! These yellow Cerbs only like one thing - driven (and fastly)
. Hope you get it sorted ok - my recon starter motor came to about £300 and it is still cranking up fineThanks guys, best give WMS a
in the morning then, oh
.
Dave, no warnings, just went suddenly, and agree with your comment about 'payback time'
Greg, I was straddled the road at the time aswell, luckily, as I was solo, had enough of a slope to run it back out of harms way. Dont know if I agree with your theory about why it went. More like a jealous blue cerb owner (you trying to quieten me down Peter?
) snuck in my garage and sabotaged it!
Also giving the AA a call in the morning, generous chap that I am, will spread my business about
Will keep you posted

I think anyone who pays £400 for a starter motor is a little strange.
TVR didn't invent these startermotors from scratch they're just adding a huge markup.
And all the threads that talk about how much money they make off warranty companies are balanced by all those getting shafted by them
Isn't it more sensible to take your starter motor to a decent motor factors and find out which normal car, and normal replacement price you can get it for??

make all the noise you want Nick, and I shall look forward to seeing Mr Yellow
driving by again. (Although blue Cerbs are a touch noisier)!
