This is my first post, on any website.
I've got a 97 Cerbera 4.2
She's quick and she looks great so i love her......but i know nothing (almost) about the technical stuff!

She's in for 12k service - the chap just called to say it has a coolant leak into a cylinder head bulb or some similar mechanic chat. Might have to take engine out and send to coventry for head change.

My question - does this seem reasonable to anyone out there with a scooby about this kind of thing, and if so what might be a reasonable cost estimate?

Cheers

Blown head gasket I assume.

Have you had problems with coolant levels or overheating recently? Any mayonnaise in the filler cap?

Not unheard of by any means, but there are a couple of places that should be able to do the work without needing to send the engine away, Topcats Racing for one.

I had a headbolt snap & piss coolant everywhere last year.
Reckon on changing both headgaskets & all studs (assuming all the studs come out cleanly & dont need to be drilled & helicoiled)
£2k should see it done.

The joys of Cerbera ownership
I'm planning on changing the headgasket on my golf this weekend for the grand total of £50 and a few hours work!

Thanks fellas!
Last year i took it to Mole Valley, but as they are focusing on noble i have taken it to a small outfit nearby called TVR Fix. Am waiting as we speak to hear whether he can do anything to save my bacon, ie avoid the coventry shocker.
Had some overheating in recent months (when really hot and if driving in town) and started noticing coolant levels reducing quickly, thus having to top up a fair bit.

If your current mechanic can't fix it, I'd do as trooper1212 suggests and get him to give somewhere like TopCats a call before shipping it to Blackpool/Coventry.

Changed the headgasket on my V12 two weeks ago. Three days off and three days on. One day change out of a weeks holiday.

Gasket set cost £384

It will take 6 days if you do everything twice
