Hello All,

Does anyone know where I can get hold of, or of anyone who's getting rid of a standard style back box similar to the one below:

Cheers guys. Gazzab, I'm hoping to make it there this year. How much would you want for it?

Sorry yes I got it, just don't know what it's worth and tend to wait for offers rather than suggest a price.

Will do on Monday, as I am desperate for something less crude than the Sports Tails that ensure you fail every noise test.

I really need a guaranteed sub 105 dB at 4500, that is the absolute minimum.

Anything less (sound dampening) is just extremely anti-social, attracts unwelcome attention, and detracts from my enjoyment of the car (99% of the time, but for the other 1% it's quite fun).

I'm now running the full ACT system with silenced decat's and I'm very pleased with noise levels ! Fantastic deep quality sound to it, quiet cruising speeds but growls like hell on fire when push the loud pedal to the floor biggrin

Last time I asked, you could still by this set up from the original supplier. Or via 'Power'.

My back box is hanging from my Garage ceiling as an ornament. It is off a Speed Six but I believe they are the same. I'm sure I could part with it for beer vouchers, just need to find myself different decorations.

That's very kind of you Trevor, but I'm all sorted for one now thanks. Don't sell yourself short if you're willing to part with it, the going rate seems to be £80-£100 and there appears to be a demand for them.

Olly

There must be loads hanging around .. those who upgraded to sports exhausts.

Have you checked the TVR spares for sale ?

They often upgraded because the original fell to bits Rev. The tails on mine looked like they'd been welded on many times - of course poor welding could have been the reason why that happened ...

Seriously, do yourself a favour and don't bother. They are very heavy and have low ground clearance. Act do a quiet system which I have on my car with silenced centre pipes, a little extra in the tail pipes and the rear sports boxes. Small, light, 106db at 4500rpm, or 96-98db with the additional trackday silencers on. If you need those, get them to make the tail pipes removable/bolt on and you can swap between trackday additional cans and normal tailpipes with a couple of bolts either side.

Have you decatted? These are a terrible source of heat but do provide 8-10db of noise reduction. There are some silenced non cat pipes you can put in as well.

Byker,

Is that 106db without cats?

I have just bought the ACT system with the removeable tails...but am waiting to fit it. I want to see volume before I buy the 2nd set of tails.

Yup 106db decatted, with ACT exhaust manifolds as well, then 96-98db with the trackday cans on. I've got the smaller 2.5" diameter system as I've a 4.2, which Joolz said was strangling a little power but I've 380 so I'll sacrifice a little to keep the neighbours happy. With the track day cans added and the cats in I've got onto thruxton (90db), just be very gentle on the run up and run down. Don't let it backfire (easier with cats in).

However the cats got so hot I couldn't stay out long. Lots of full throttle at thruxton.

Mine looks like:

and there's extra silencing in the tailpipes
