Sure it's been discussed before but what is the general consensus on tyre pressures for track days.

Currently run 18" spiders/Toyos at 22psi front and 24psi rear. Thinking that I should add a couple of psi all round?

Thanks in advance, JT

I've a track day on Sunday, so any advice will be welcomed.

For the standard wheels, my little black owners book says pump them up to the same all round for performance days, can't remember the specific numbers at work. I pumped them up to 26 for Castle Combe and still found them a little spongey, that squidgy wall feeling, on the limit coming out of the chicanes when powering on early, but very balanced on the fast corners and was pleasantly surprised. However I noticed that I was wearing a lot off the middle of the tyre!

I was told it is all about what needs to support the wall without stressing the tyre?

Difficulty on the day regrading playing with pressures is that the tyres get so hot so your "cold" base measurement is lost.

I will certainly pump mine all back to the same again for the next track day, may be a bit more.............just a little bit more...........oh just a bit.........bang!

Advice for a track day....... should have bought a blue one

Kept standard 22psi front 24psi rears for Bridgestone road tyres. Found overinflating them lost grip. Also depending how hot it was on the day 18 - 20psi all round for the trackdays on slicks.

Michelin man (not the big fat white one but a man employed by the Company) took temperature readings across the tyres at Spa and thought the pressures I ran were fine.

Hi JT - sorry never replied to your other thread. I'm at a wedding on Saturday so I'll not be about. Would've been good to meet. Bassingbourn's only 20 minutes or so away from me.

Tyre pressures wise I run mine at 32 psi hot. That was the number Colin Blower came up with when testing my car at Mallory Park. He used a tyre pyrometer to come to this conclusion and get as even a temperature as possible across the tyre. The Toyo has quite a soft construction so I'd be inclined to get the pressure up fairly or I imagine you'll take the outside shoulder off the tyre.

Thanks guys - unfortunately disaster has struck and I shan't be tracking after all. Took the Cerb in to get a couple of oil hoses replaced and whilst removing the pipe from the oil resevoir the threads stripped away - steel hose coupling and aluminium coupling on the resevoir - great engineering concept. Hey ho, there's always next time.....

Washy, will give you a buzz next time I'm in your neck of the woods and hopefully grab a beer.
