Stuck just outside south Sheffield as clicking starter and then when it does try it just does half a lazy turn and gives up. It's sometimes a little funny with me on hot start up but this time I think Cerbera says no.
That's dinner cancelled.
Really could go n buy a Porsche at times like this!

Wife came with jump leads. Didn't help and started doing weird things like lights on for no reason etc... So dumped it and going home. Will ask joolz to change starter and battery. Will try hot wiring alarm.

Not what we want to hear boys. There were built to test your patience. stick in there and wait for summer to use it and enjoy them, they really don't like being used in winter is my theory hehe

No it's definitely related to one or more of these :
Battery
Alarm
Starter
High compression red rose

I'm sub Fubar level on the technical side I'm afraid.Could someone please explain how the higher compression affects causes this? Cheers.

Basically, the engine has less room in the cylinder (compression chamber) in which to compress the air/fuel mix. Therefore the engine has to work a bit harder to compress the gas. This puts more load on the starter motor when it's trying to kick the whole process off.

Not anything to do with RR higher compression, but add starter button to the list.

Sorry to read this GB.
Bad though I feel saying this, makes me feel a little better I haven't got a snotter starter. Definitely borderline on this situation whist refilling at BP yesterday...

Question - do folks know if there is an updated/ replacement starter that would crank a bit harder ?

Thx, Chris

Really why not (and i am sure it's not the button)?

Have you tried bypassing the starter button, by connecting straight from the battery to the starter motor?

Battery as mine did the same thing. I could not jump it off a Discovery 4 but a new banner battery sorted it out no problems.

From the symptoms you describe id say its most likely just the battery, it's been sitting around for 18months doing nothing, then expected to perform faultlessly???

They can be funny things if not used regularly, just like Cerbs smile

Be worth checking the electrical bolt connections for tightness knowing its all been apart recently, I'm thinking alternator/starter motor/ main engine earth lead, anyone could cause poor starting /charging.

Stick with it Gaz, only teething trouble mate.

Rich.
