Could anyone help me with some advice on this Cerbera on ebay before I make the trip to view it. The ad says someone connected the battery charger the wrong way around which damaged the wireing around the boot area. It mentions that they have a new loom and sounds like a temptingly 'easy fix' Am I right in thinking the ECU is likely to be toast together with any other sensors/ controllers. Is an ECU swap from a breakers possible.
Any thoughts would be helpful

If its an easy fix why haven they done it ? The one takeaway I have from having read every post in this forum for the last three an a half years and owning a cerb for the last two and a half years is that Cerbs are very very intolerant of hamfisted maintenance.

If it cant be powered up or started then assume every box in the car is fried and budget accordingly. If you like wiggly amps and tinkering than it could be a good buy for £6-8k but have a look at UKKIDS posts to see what a car with a few niggle might take to fix.

In fairness they do mention "loom replacement" rather than "prepared to paint stage for £600.... " so probably worth a viewing at least.

It looks like it has been pampered in the past, I would say that it is a £12k car if all else is ok, if it is supplied with the loom then it must be worth £10k of anyone's money leaving £2k to get the loom fitted and any other niggles sorted.

Worth viewing - that doesn't cost you.

I would think it is likely that most the control boxes sitting on the fuel tank in the boot will be fried. However, although they are quite rare you may be in luck as there seems to be a near full collection currently available on ebay (scroll down past the first few search results):
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=tvr+me&_...

If the chassis is good, the paintwork acceptable and the engine looks OK...no obvious oil leaks/issues then I would go for it and also buy all those control boxes. You will probably still need to find an ECU but a breaker will have one and the last one I had to buy was £280ish IIRC (this was a few years back).

I think budget for 1-1.5k on the electrics and you could be back on the road.

Or you could be the luckiest man alive and they just blew the big fuse...rolleyes

This. Pet hate of mine. If it is an easy fix you would do it yourself and reap the extra pennies.

This car had £8000 spent on engine ,gearbox , clutch, suspension etc with ourselves less than 1000 miles ago

We did the rebuild work on the car
This is the bit that would throw most punters off IMO

Someone who's took the time to Eight Grand's worth of work on it, hasn't the time to replace a loom ?

That's my take on it. That said, I'm not looking to buy one, so you can advertise however you want smile

8k,s worth of work was a paying job a while ago so time = £,s, back in the day when tvr were alive and kicking these forums were full of mainly sensible chat, nowdays the odd geek with a keyboard can try and be clever and come out with some stupid comments, I only reluctantly posted on here due to a potential customer advising me this morning of a geek attack without even calling to ask about the car, if you have no money then fine, if you are not looking to buy the car thats also fine , but keep your stupid comments to yourself , feel free to call me for genuine extra info, Dave

If nothing else, this thread has helped your advert get to some more faces & you've got at least one potential punter on here.

Not all bad.

Do you really think that we are doing anything other than warning potential buyers to the pitfalls?

As an owner and potential seller, surely I'm only likely to try to pump up the value of my car. And yet I'm doing my best to keep buyers grounded in reality. You're doing your best to try to skew the market - good luck to you, perhaps I can ride that wave!
