Removing body on '97 4.2 Cerb
Discussion
Hi guys,
Got a 97 Cerb 4.2 which seems to have some rot on the chassis in various places - we have all the kit to do the repair work, but not sure on how tricky it is to remove the bodywork to inspect the whole chassis and carry out the repairs - anyone done this, or is there any information available for this anywhere?
Thanks in advance

Dunbar wouldn't do this........................he would phone Austec!!I on the other hand would phone STR8SIX, but he is in the middle of putting 4 back together at the moment so would have to wait a while.

No they would send it to willow sports cars in newark 6month wait at a guesdI on the other hand would phone STR8SIX, but he is in the middle of putting 4 back together at the moment so would have to wait a while.
In all seriousness, if you want to do it youself it is not particularly difficult to take the body off. I did mine single handed over a long weekend.
Once the engine is out, it is mostly a case of undoing bolts (or cutting the recalcitrent ones!) And having a suitible support that let's you tilt the shell as it comes off the chassis. The official procedure is in the workshop manual.
Be warned though, shipwrights dissease sets in very rapidly and costs escalate sharply once you start replacing parts on the basis that "I might as well do it while the body is off".

Thanks Tang, if the process and bolts etc is in the workshop manual it should be ok. Does the engine need to be removed?Once the engine is out, it is mostly a case of undoing bolts (or cutting the recalcitrent ones!) I did my body lift with the engine in and djstevec's with the engine out. Having done it both ways it is massively easier to take the engine out first. You are going to want to take it out of the chassis for repair anyway so will need to disconnect it either way. Definitely and absolutely take it out first!ukkid35 said:

what is supporting the engine and G.box?
Andy @ APM's workshop and Steve's bathroom floor. There was a lot of prep work before we started that day; as well as pulling the engine and gearbox, most of the interior had already been removed.
