LW - how much lighter?
Discussion
I'm sure the answer to this is buried somewhere in the forum, but despite efforts through google and other TVR sites I can't find it.... So apologies for asking a question that most Cerb owners will probably already know, but what weight saving does the LW actually offer? (Appreciate that not all Cerbs, or other model Tivs will weigh exactly the same as their sister cars).

No, not yet, but I'm looking at the various classifieds on an almost daily basis at the moment, and doing as much reading as I can
Oddly, the Cerb was what I had my sights on before I bought the Chim, and it was a bit of a last minute swerve as I owned an MGBGT V8 at the time and for some reason that made alot of sense then I decided to stick with an engine I had some experience of. I think it's worked out as I've learnt a huge amount about TVR ownership without having to start from scratch on the engine side of things, which, being a compulsive modifier forever in search of more power has turned out to be a positive thing. I've spent bucket loads on the Chim, and will continue to do so to keep her 100%, but it's definitely time now for a Cerb
And for the same reason the Chim had to be a 500, the Cerb has to be a 4.5, silly maybe, but I can't help it

No such thing as a light weight cerb, it's a myth.
plus they weight more than 96/97 models.
There was LWs made but they became impossible to paint because of the flexing. The confusion of cars becoming called light weights rather than the few made was the new shaped cars which as you say are heavier. plus they weight more than 96/97 models.

As usual there's a load of tosh spouted on this old chestnut subject.
There are six 4.5's (most of which are also Red Roses) which were made lighter than
the standard 4.5 at that time by using a lighter resin lay up on some of the panels.
My late 2001 LW RR (No.B001050) Factory Build Sheet specifies 'Light Weight as per the Press Car'
Not all of the lighter panels were the same on each of the cars.
Some of them had paint trouble with the panels unduly flexing; mine looks as pristine as when
it left the factory.
If you contact nemasis on this forum (was at Automedon - don't know about now) he has all the
factory build/specification details for all cars and can confirm if a car is a true Factory LightWeight or not.

Mine is a LW and if you compare the weight of lifting the bonnet to mine compared to a normal Cerb there is a massive difference. The doors and boot you obviously can't compare as they are hinged or held up but boot stays.
I have yet to weigh the whole car one day I will get round to it.

I am not saying that there is a massive difference with the whole car weight just the bonnet as thats the only part I can compare. I have yet to weigh the whole car one day I will get round to it.
The answer about lightweights and LW's is here:

Also, don't a lot of people get a little confused with the initials LW as some of the later cars had a Large Window, as in front screen ?
As far as I have been able to ascertain, there was no difference in the size of the window glass. The series 1 had a thicker boarder which made the viewable area smaller (and also became known as the "letterbox" windscreen.HTH
