Any others experience such low temps
Discussion
The cold...
I drive mine what ever the weather, but do you all have low temps...?
I have put together cardboard wrapped in foil covering the entire radiator (experimented with smaller portions.... (I have an ally rad) and smaller cardboard one to cover the oil cooler... still in traffic I'm getting 70-80 at standstill.. m25 traffic and the needle goes back up to the pin on a motorway... and its freezing inside!
the oil barely reached 60 degrees...
any other ideas to keep the warmth in the engine do you experience this?

The running temp of mine always drops quite considerably during the winter but I have never bothered to do anything about this. The lower running temp doesn't help when trying to warm the cabin which is also hampered by the cold draughts forced in through the bulkhead.
I cured 99% of my draughts by sealing up the bulkhead from the inside and also blocking the hole under the drivers indicator as that acts as a funnel for the cold air right in to the cabin through the cold air ventilation system.

I removed some of the carpet around where the aircon comes through (it will be replaced on retrim) but i have a real draft, perfect for summer but now not good at all.Mad Mark said:

My last Cerb i had some TVR sponge things in the wing. What did you seal yours up with?
Just had cooling overhaul with new Alloy Rad, proper coolant, cut down numberplate (only five letters in reg)
78-80 gauge indicated temp on the motorway with warm to hot air out of the vents. Been out twice in the cold weather. just over 80 standing. (have the jools cooling chip fitted too)
Before the work in nice weather with leaking rad and airlocks 90-100 to over 100 when capilary gets super heated by exhaust manifold in traffic. with hot and cold out of the vents with the ailocks
According to the diagnostic software my gauge is reading hot by 4 to 5 deg when stood.

They are as far as i can tell supposed to have a sponge type stuff in the wing but I think it still allows air to pass through. I have to admit I do bodge mine a little as its black I cover the hole with black tank tape only when its really cold but keep meaning to glue a piece of dark perspex behind the hole to seal it up.
i spent ages with a high powered fan blasting air through a funnel into the hole to trace the leaks inside the drivers footwell.
Here's a thread I started many many moons ago on the subject.

It shouldn't run at less than about 80c as that is the temp that the stat opens/closes. If the gauge shows much less than that and the heaters blow cold, your stat is probably stuck open (or missing).
Just took mine on a short motorway journey and it barely crept above 70c so i presume my stat isn't working. My feet froze too, warm air on the screen but none into the footwell.

I remember this thread... i even mention the sponges there. Didn't someone go mad with that expanding foam (used or walls) and it ended up coming out of the indicator? Here's a thread I started many many moons ago on the subject.

Don't forget each blower outlet has its own open/close flaps on it even the one in the footwell. If you are getting warm air up then and none below then check the flap is open or check for leaks. It's not uncommon for the connecting pipes to leak or have come disconnected completely causing the heat to be lost behind the dash. Depending on if you have early or late Cerb you have two blowers for the footwell under the steering column one for cold one for warm. I think the earlier ones have the warm vents on the side of the transmission tunnel.

Yep, had a good look round when I got the car back home and found the flap on the transmission tunnel, and it was closed, It actually pumps out quite a bit of heat now with it open.Depending on if you have early or late Cerb you have two blowers for the footwell under the steering column one for cold one for warm. If you check the passenger side and close that one you will get a little more air through the open vents.
Obvious yes but often over looked. :-)
