So im looking for some wheels possibly 18" for a project im planning which include wheel arches at the moment iv got r17 front and rear but when the arches are fitted will need some wider wheels to fill the arches an extra 40mm onthe front and 20mm at the rear would i be able to acheave this just by offset alone or wider wheels or spaces

Offset would require -5 and 15 to move them out that much.

You could fill them any way you wanted. Width and/or offset. If you went wider you'd need lower offset to keep them clear of the inner arches etc.

Does anybody know the offset on the rl17 and would it just be a case of increasing width of the new wheels and working out the offset to suit

Think they're 41 or 42mm.

So if i choose some 18×10 wheels what would the offset have to be to fill the arches as the rl17 are 8.5" wide

I'd be concerned about how the car will drive with such large offset changes to be honest. I'd be even more concerned about large offset changes which were different front and rear. The rear changes are not such an issue in themselves but the front definately is. That'll screw your steering geometry right up, and the outside shoulders of the tyres will end up significantly further forward and/or aft in the arches on full lock.

Sorry I don't think this is a very good idea - certainly not at the numbers you're talking!

+1 to the above. Changing the offset, particulary on the front could make it really unpleasent to drive...

There is some good resource material on the net, some good stuff in here:

"Could"

He is choosing the look of wide arches, the offset/widths will need fiddling and any handling traits that might develop will just have to be lived with.

Looked and its an RX8 lookie like which is ok for a Mazda nice motor but! it's not as god intended the Cerb to look and I think it's wrong however it's your car but with the likely handling issues on a blistering quick car would be a no no from me.
