Battery light isnt coming on ??

Just reading through various articles on-line and could the battery light not coming on when i switch on the ignition (car not running) cause an issue with the charging ???

Within my limited knowledge of electron behaviour.....

Is your battery completely flat?

If not then the light should come on with the ignition live before you start the car, the light then goes out as the alternator runs delivering charge. If you have no light coming on, I'd say check all your connections before replacing your alternator....

Hi the battery is fully charged so its not that, would the light not working stop the alternator from working ???

The only situation where the light can stop the alternator working is if the supply lead to the bulb is shorted to earth. I know this because it happened to me on a steel bodied car and I had put in a new alternator before I found out that the wire into the back of the bulb holder had chaffed through.

The other thing that can cause it is, a wire becoming unattached from the back of the alternator.

One of mine came off, and it wasn't showing the the alternator wasn't charging the system. Hence my battery was running the car and went flat whilst out for a pint of milk

It was one of the smaller wires
