Hi
After years of admiring I have finally made the plunge and fulfilled one of my dreams and become a TVR owner.
Last week I purchased a "Rolex Blue" 4.2 with fawngrey leather.
After much searching this was the one for me. Stainless sports exhaust and the spider alloys, with front and rear light conversions were the icing on the cake.
I sold my 1994 mkiv Twin Turbo supra to get this car. Nothing I have drive gave me the same feeling of speed as the supra until I went in a Cerbera, raw power is an awesome thing.
John the chap who sold me this car has really looked after it and was sad to see it go.
As a Cerbera, and TVR full stop, virgin, I have a number of questions which hopefully someone will be able to help me with.
The handbrake is very weak is this normal? The alarm will sound if I try and start it with a door open! When leaving the car, must I first put the windows up before then opening the door or will the windows fully close when I alarm the car?
I have twice had a nasty grating sound that sounds like the starter motor missing as it shoots up, after releasing the starter button and trying agin it starts first time!!!
I narrowly missed this months meet at the crows nest but would love to meet some local owners who can have a look over the car and just confirm my choice.
Thankyou to anyone that takes the time to read this and also for any forthcoming advise.
David

Welcome to the mad house.
Handbrake is normal. Some work, some dont. Mine doesn't.
The alarm problem is not normal. You should be able to start the car with the door open, with no problems.
The windows should shut when the alarm is activated.
May just want reseting.
As for the starter motor, that may be on its way out, but not sure.

cool, thankyou for taking the time to help.
I need a bit of time to test the car out and all these things, I feel a busy weekend coming up!!!!
Can anyone on here recomend the V8 centre in High Wycombe Bucks for servicing and troubleshooting help, I've heard they are better value than Henley TVR!

A big welcome to you mate. I took the plunge not long ago after five years of saving. I had some teething troubles at the start including said starter motor problems similar to yours. I had it replaced under warranty.
With regard to the windows, I always have to close them before I get out and set the alarm as they don't go up on their own from fully down.
Enjoy your new toy and keep grinning.

My handbrake also takes some hefty work and won't hold on any decent gradient.
On mine the windows are closed by the alarm, no need to close them first.
I had the starter motor go and the symptoms were exactly as you describe. There were no new ones available at the time, so I had mine reconditioned which wasn't too expensive, about £150 if I recall - it's been fine ever since.

The V8 centre mainly deal in Rover V8s.
As your in Bucks, take your car to Topcats Racing just outside Aylesbury, they look after a few cars on here (mine included).
Hello there and welcome. Those things you mention don't seem to be too serious. Yes the handbrakes are poor, starter motors do go (well mine did), and as for the windows, i always wind mine up before opening the door and then sutting - sometimes you will confuse the sensor if you do it differently.
You are quite local to me, so might i recommend Topcats near Aylesbury for servicing, repairs etc etc. Would also be good to meet up some time - i live near Leighton Buzzard

Congrats.
Although the windows should auto close, my drivers window sometimes has a funny five minutes and wont close (if trying from fully open) all the way necessatating getting back in the car and manually closing the window a bit more (most of the time it fully closes fine). That all part of TVR/Cerbera ownership I guess
My car is at Austecs having had the starter replaced. Ive heard that they give advanced warning (like yours sounds) but mine just went one morning without any warning, churn churn, crunch crunch, wiiineeee. It went while starting it to take it to Austecs for some other works, bloody car is psycic (spelling?)!
Hi i am a new member and i've had a Cerb for 5 years and i wish i'd found the site sooner. the info is great.
I know i am not alone but i reckon my car is self healing. I've had 15 faults including problems with windows, guages etc and the've all gone away, but in the last 2 months i had the horrible sound you mentioned and the starter has just been replaced.
I live in Mk so hopefully see you around
cheers

I actually had John the chap I bought the car from call me today so I had a chance to ask him. Apparently the starter motor is reconditioned anyway so it might be on the way out.
As for the windows, yes, on this one I need to do them up before pressing the door release. Also the alarm with the doors open thing was most likely me holding down the immobiliser button for too long and the car alarming itself! investigation will continue this weekend.
Any thought about how long the battery will last. I won't be turning it over for approx 10 days. Will it be ok and if it does go flat, is there anything weird I need to know about jump starting.
Would def like to meet local owners, so if i see you/you see me hpefully we can take a moment to chat.
