Hi All -

I'm currently contemplating a step up the 'TVR Ladder' to Cerbera ownership -

Can someone please outline the main differences between models -

4.2?
4.5?
V8 or straight Six?

which one needed rebuilds?

running costs

cheers y'all!

Tim.

I am not a cerbera owner but know a fair bit about them.

4.2 - AJP V8 engine. Very fast and unlikely to be problematic to the extent a Speed 6 will be. Generally seem sorted these days. Early clatter cams seem to be considered slightly quicker.

4.5 - AJP V8 engine. very fast, albeit not considered much faster than the 4.2 until 100mph+. Again, seems to be pretty sorted these days.

Speed 6 - I think the numerous threads speak for themselves. Some seem sorted, some aren't. The engine does have different characteristics but personally I cant afford to take the risks involved. This is the one that is most likely to require rebuilds.

Running costs, generally allow £3k a year is the general consensus. Basically, take the V8 costs and double them. As an idea, the running costs on my V8 have increased the costs of running the S by about 50% from about £1k a year to about £1500. So the cerb would be about 3 times the cost of the S to run. Seems to be about right when I think of what various mates have spent on S's and Cerbs

Oops.....there are those that will consider this to be a wind up........

Try searching back threads on this forum.....
There are loads of them that compare the 4.2 with the 4.5 and if you go to the Tuscan forum you will find as much info as you can take on the S6.

When you have compiled a few more questions...come on back and they will get answered.

If you need help looking for a Cerb...try P/H classifieds, TVRcc Sprint magazine or Rob Ingelby.

They are awesome machines and I hope you find the info you need.

Good Luck

Have or expecting kids then

I'd say stick to a V8, as many people have said the difference between a 4.2 and 4.5 is minimal in standard driving (bigger brakes, better top-end) but nice to have, however I've seen a £3k difference between used 4.2 and 4.5s, so there is quite a premium for those 0.3 litres!

If you see a 4.2 that has the right exterior and interior colour combinations, the wheels and lights you want etc. I'd well recommend a look.

Get in touch if you'd like some advise as I've just gone the same route and am based in SE London.

Running costs: Low I hope....

I said the same on another thread too, shnozz, very, very nice...excpet its not yellow, but I'll forgive him that one (trying to stay exclusive, seems to be a plethora of yellow cerbs about at the moment, I know they are the most sought after, but its getting silly now )

I'm sure he would be devastated to find out his Cerb was blue, I know there are a fair few others on here who feel the same way
