Difference between standard 4.5 and red rose

The Red Rose was I guess the pinnacle of the Cerbera range. Based on the 4.5, but tweaked, reaching for motoring perfection. The engine was tuned, and you had the option to hit a switch on the dash, which would tell the ECU to change to an alternative fuel map and you'd get the benefit of 440 horses pulling you along. The Red Rose was also giving larger brakes and tweaked suspension making it a very formidable package.

skimmed heads, a flap wheel down the ports, an ecu chip and a button that sometimes doesn't work. that'll be 2350 plus vat please. easiest way for tvr to make 2k ever!
Wow JThat's 117.5 pounds per bhp over a std 4.5 claimed figures.
When equated to a std 420bhp it costs 49350 pounds, another usless fact!
My late 2001 4.5 LW RR Factory Build Sheet says :
Raised Compression ratio (no figures stated)
3 angle valve seats
Re-worked and polished ports
Balanced combustion chambers
Optimised cam timing
Re-shimmed cam followers
Upgraded head gaskets
ECU EPROM chips (?)
ECU 95/97 octane switch
(not sure what items like 'optimised cam timing' actually mean; just
copying the paperwork)
This cost an extra £3290 on top of the new car price.

My RR was on the dyno last year at a local Tvr meet and made 398, that was with a burnt out cat on one bank, a diff that was shot and cam timing that was not as accurate as it could have been. I was still disappointed but after reading a few posts on bhp figures and surmising that if the cat was ok, the cam timing sorted and the diff recond ( all of which have now been sorted) that it old have broke the 400 mark. For a few more bhp I could remove the cats, put on the short induction and I think it would see north of 430 from what I can see the decay and short induction gains normally are.
The car is now in a container on its way to oz, hopefully I will see it in 6 weeks and he real fun will begin trying to get an import plate!

Joolz, Nick,
Cheers for the info, my memory is definitely fading. I thought there was a RR at the original Surrey Rolling Road Shootout.....way back in 2005/6? This is the one I thought made 370ish, anyway what you say makes sense, of course Nick's made good original numbers and was a good target to aim at for catching up with the early modifications.
I'd love to get back in a Cerb, when my Sons are old enough to get involved, then a Cerb project or similar will be on the cards. Too much time invested and knowledge gained to not be put to good use. I am currently enjoying my Merc and it should be the first car I have had since the Cerb, that can outstrip it on the 1/4 mile....we'll see.
Jules.
