Sent the missus out for the yearly trip to the
post office, nice new tax disc in smart new holder. I thought to myself, i know what ill go for a nice drive.
Started her up, unable to select any gear, presume clutch knackered. Had the car since january first problem and first claim on warranty, is it straight forward?

Can you get it in gear with the engine switched off?

Check for oil from the slave (under the car) or from the master cylinder (around the pedals). Hopefully, it'll be one of these (seals gone).

However, sounds like some of the fingers have broke on the clutch (diaphram spring).

Theres a photo of 3 broken fingers on kevin63 S6 on the thread below.

No, wont go in gear with or without engine running
and no signs of fluid anywhere, but thanks for the response.

Check the fluid level in the clutch master cylinder. You'll have to take the inner bonnet off (2 screws) and have a look. The clutch M cylinder is behind the black cover, on the drivers side. 2 screws and the mastic will have to be removed.

Does the clutch feel normal or "spongy"? Normal culthc will be the fingers, otherwise it will be the seals on the slave or master cylinder.

When you have a look at the fluid level (unless you leave it for Offords to do), you might see black bits in the fluid to indicate the seals have gone.
Not too expensive if its the master cylinder seals.

Afternoon all ...

Mine had no fluid loss ... no rubber bits in fluid

clutch pedal still odd not spongy ... squeel at idle
and noise with clutch enguaged

conclusion clutch itself on the way out ... drove it over to offords ... fine all the way there until the t junction in the village and then it let go ... no pedal at all and no clutch ....

I now wait to see if its new bell housing and flywheel time also! ??

We will see ... take your point SXS on Joospeed but distance is an issue ... all be it im only 20 miles further than yourself

Oh and as for mad or rich ... MAD as a hatter!

The thing is you pays your money you takes your chances ... good job I got the car for a good price!

Regards to you all ... DAS

First of all welcome to the CFC!

Sounds exactly what happened to me a while back. Turned out the seals had gone, plus i got a new master cylinder put in for good measure. Trooper1212 is the expert on knackered clutch symptoms
