Decat question
Discussion
From my understanding, the current units done make much of a difference to the back-pressure, the existing 2-1 2-1 skinny headers create most of the back pressure.... maybe they changed their designs over the years of the headers?
no ur right Ash .. the decats do nothing for power, but release more noise

Hi Julian,
Well it did occur to me to remove my cats, which appear to be working as normal (i.e. passed the MOT) and replace with decat pipes. That way I can keep a good set of cats and always be sure to pass my MOT in future! Does that make any sense?
I'm not sure I could deal with the noise though. Does anybody have experience of decat pipes with a standard back box?

Yes, I have standard back silencer and de-cat pipes. Below 3K revs it is not to much noisier, as the revs build the sound is awesome. The pop and bang on the overrun is more pronounced but easily controlled...just bang it down a gear for more ;-)
Flames are the added bonus.
I use the car for 40 miles a day every day including motorway and I won't be going back.

Cheers,
Strangely enough I’d actually prefer more exhaust volume below 2000rpm, something to actually drown out the horrible noise the AJP8 makes at tick over! Also, not much louder than normal after 2000rpm. I doubt very much that this is possible though.
Thanks for the info,
Cheers,
Rob

Custom headers, and a pair of 3"'ers to the back with small resonators will produce a harmonious F1 sound thanks to the flat-plane crank...
Wont cost much:
Custom headers depending on quality - from £600 to 3k
Custom 3" piping and brackets and decat pipes - from £500 to 2k
SLP type resonators - around £200 each
and there you have it, for the budget concious - you can get a system built for around £1600 + labour
or for the performer purists - anything from 3k upwards...
you'll be wandering why you never did it earlier - thats how gobsmacking the sound and sensation will be when you first hear her fire up!...
The way I see it, if you can spend £1500 on a sofa or something - you can spend 1500 on your car! which you probably get more enjoyment out of anyway...

It took me a long time to accumalate enough points with the missus to buy my cerb. Bit of budget I have left is to sort any probs that may arise. (fingers crossed)
Upgrades of that calibre will have to wait a very long time.
I'll just stick with the decat for now and a few cosmetic bits to tidy her up.
