So, thoughts on what are the best options for replacement shocks & springs?

Well this depends on budget.

Nitrons are what I run and are a reasonable upgrade, in fact they suit me very well.
Ohlins would be the next one up, better than Nitrons but expensive.
Intrax are the top end, very good but with a price to match.

For springs most use Eibach, mine are 50lb higher rating than the originals and seem to work well on road and for trackdays.

Didn't the factory sell these for about £500 including springs?

Round about that, yes, I believe.

Plus, after sitting for 3 years I'd imagine they need a rebuild.

That is a FAB price.

I think that I paid £800+ for a set with springs (probably 6 years ago).
