More Clutch Problems!
Discussion
This is getting very boring now.
I parked the car up in the garage a couple of weeks ago after a great day out, come to it now and the clutch pedal is all "floppy". There is only the resistance of the spring until right at the bottom of the travel theres a tiny bit of pressure.
It had a complete new clutch put in in march this year, everything except the slave cylinder.
Now the questions;
Does this sound like the slave cylinder as that appears to be the obviuos culprit?
The fluid reservoir is still full, does that mean anything?
How could I identify the problem? There doesn't appear to be any fluid about, but it's dark in the garage and it's been sat a couple of weeks.
Thanks in anticipation,
Swin.

Yes and no in that order.
Your slave cylinder seals have gone, almost certainly.
If thats the case then the local friendly tvr dealer will charge approximately 450 beer tokens for the pleasure of replacing the seals only. Cylinder replacement is an extra 250 beer tokens. (Give or take a couple)
Edited cause I'm a numpty

Not good.
I still haven't figured out how to get it out of the garage, let alone to a dealer.
If I'm then going to be relieved of 700 sheets Mrs Swin is going to want to kick the car into touch.
My only saving grace could be the warranty, would the cylinder and/or seals be covered? It's a WHA one.
I've just checked the history file and the car had the slave cylinder seals done in Jan last year. Surely the life expectancy should be longer than that?

I wouldn't be surprised if they call it wear and tear.
Try this as a temporary thing. If you're lucky it will get you going for a few miles.
Open up clutch fluid reservoir (under the daft cover in the drivers inside wing)
Clean out black rubbery stuff if it's there (Definate sign of seals gone)
Open up bleed nipple a 1/4 to 1/2 turn and put it in a bottle.
Have your better half sit in the car and pump the clutch pedal while you keep the reservoir topped up.
When clutch is nice and hard again, close valve and put cover on.
Drive to where you want work down.
(Take a few tools and clutch fluid just in case you need to do another session)
This got me from Glasgow to Leeds when mine went.
If you have the AA breakdown mechanical warranty it will cover anything they can't fix at the roadside up to 500 quid (costs 50 quid or so for the year and you can use it 3 times a year)
Edited to add: AFAIK most places will not warranty the work if they only replace the seals as there could be a small amount of scoring on the cylinder which would limit the life of the seals.

Joe .. if ur local friendly TVR dealer (!) don't give you any joy, give me a call .. I have slave cylinders in stock cheaper than that (under 200 pounds retail) and have my cylinder seals made from better rubber than TVR and they're a tenner a set! I supply several TVR dealers with the stuff cos it's better quality and cheaper!
If they don't play ball give me a call.

if the reservoir is still full it can only be the recuperating valve in the end of the master cylinder .. you sure tho you're not looking at the brake cylinder rather than the clutch cylinder (under a matt black cover inside the engine bay itself) ..?
I've just taken the top cover off the engine bay and it looks as though (what I assume to be) the clutch reservoir is under a cover with lots of sealant and tape all around it. Am I in the right place and shall I just pull all that apart?
Why is nothing simple on this sodding car?
I think I want my S2 back.........

Yep, there should be a bunch of sealant and 2 screws holding the nodule on.
with top cover off you will see a fibreglass cover
under the airbox with 2 self tapping screws holding in on (plus a load of mastic) undo that and the clutch res. is visable (- metal on the angle)
(Air box fouled my screws used a flexible shaft screwdriver!!)
The one you describe sounds like brakes!!
Good luck ... fellow clutch sufferer ... DAS
PS look at the thread I have or the other recent one KOJAK posted some pictures ... DAS
