Originally got a quote for the slave cylinder 430 quid. So i got the car down to hawthorns in surrey. I recieved a phone call 2day and the young salesman said he got the quote wrong! he thought i said the master cylinder. So re-quoted me 596 quid!! i think their taking the piss! I might arrgue it with them and say that im prepared to pay the orignal quote not the second! If i say you know i payed for the car to be transported down here thinking it was the orignal quote, if i had of known i would of taking it somewhere else!?? Do u think they will have it??

See the thread 'More clutch problems'
One of the last posts is from a lad who just had his Master Cylinder replaced for 75 quid parts and labour.

If I remember right Basically, Master cylinder=Cheap, Slave cylinder=Expensive.

So £430 for a Master cylinder=Extortionate, £596 for Slave=Pricey.

It doesn't read right....

Slave cylinder is a lot more expensive, as there is more involved with getting to it.

Is he saying that for the £565 or whatever that it is both? IIRC then a master is under £100 fitted.

Get your car taken from there straight to APM - only a few miles away and the best indie (in the south).

please regard this with a pinch of salt, and check with someone that knows, like Joolz, but........

I think that you probably don't need to replace the whole cylinder, usually just the seals. This is a LOT cheaper.

Joolz has one big problem. sooo big I'm gonna use capitals.

IF YOUR CERB IS F*****D YOU ARN'T GONNA DRIVE IT 200 MILES.

Cos if you could you probably wouldn't need his help anyway.

Voting that joolz moves south didn't work last time I tried it either.

The first quote i got was 430 quid for the slave cylinder, persume its the whole replacement he didnt say.
Second quote because he thought i said master when i clearly said slave, 595 quid! piss take, probably realised that its a bigger job than they first thought! I tried to negotiate with them saying that i paid alot of money transporting him up there . all he said he can do is that if the parts and labour charge was less than 595 then that`ll be the price.... But who knows if its gonna be more than that!? Joolz have you got a nice quote for me?? xx??

Slave cylinder at a TVR dealer was

50 quid for parts (seals only) plus 350 give or take for labour inc VAT.
I usually go to Indys' for work but this was an emergency.

It's a big job as the gearbox and bellhousing have to come off to access the slave cylinder. Takes about 6 hours IIRC.

Cylinder itself is around 200-250 quid depending on who you get it from by the sound of things.
If the 600 quid figure is with a new cylinder then it's probably not too far off the mark.
The 400 odd for a master is an absolute shocker

If they say they have changed the cylinder then I would be wanting to see the old one to confirm.
