Hi can i reset ecu if i discconect the battery, and if i do do i need to make sure my windows are down and doors open on battery reconnect cheers

I dont think that resets the adaptives. TBH you dont want to reset adaptives unless necessary afaik as the car will need to relearn and will stall etc for a while.

Iv'e never had a problem when Iv'e reset the adaptives, this has always been done via the computer though.

Can you only reset the addaptives through a computer - laptop i have not had a chance to sort out laptop yet , the problem i have is my car is running rich on tickover rest of the rev range seems to be fine

Yes - a laptop and the diagnostic software is the only way to reset the adaptives.

There should be no problem doing so when the car is runnin. In fact it gives you a very good measure of how well adjusted the throttle pots and linkage are at idle. If its well setup, there should hardly be a hiccough when you reset. If its a long way out it will shudder or missfire for a second then pick up again.

Just resetting the adaptives is not going to cure any rich running problem you have. If they are a long way out it simply indicates that you have not got the throttle ballance set up correctly.
