Had a wonderful weekend away in the Cerbera up to the east coast and back, doing over 400 miles in all.

On the way back, down the M1 cruising in 5th at around 75mph with only about 15 miles to go, i notice that when i put my foot lightly on the throttle there was no immediate power, but after a second or so it was there.

Kept going and came off at our junction, and it was more noticeable at lower speeds and in all gears. There were some distinct pops and bangs when there should'nt have been, and some juddering, a smell of petrol, and a good two or three seconds delay until power came on. I also noticed that once revving quite high it was OK.

It got me home, and i'm hoping when i let it rest it may be OK, but i suspect this will not be the case. Anyone any idea what this might be?

When I had this it was a cracked coil causing one of the banks to misfire.

Sounds fairly similar to an occasional fault I've had over the last 6 weeks or so. Mine's going to Top Cats tomorrow for a service (and decat ), so I'll let you know what they find.

I had a similar problem a month or two ago, but my rev counter also suddenly stopped, the MIL light came on, and then it cut out. Turned out to be the big fuse. Might not be your problem, but worth a check.

Similar simptoms to mine, coming back from Kent last Sunday.
( Just as I noticed three Ferari``s emerging from Clackett Lane Services .......)
Running deteriorated , lots of grey smoke from one bank on acceleration, and ended up doing about 5 m.p.g.!!!
hoovered along at 70 (ish), with passing cars drawing my attention to teh flames coming from the n/s exhaust .....

Naxt day the car is fine, but then develops the same fault later in the day.

Problem swiftly diagnosed by Henlys as the lambda sensor, needs changing,as its showing full fuelling all the time (?) so the waranty company are paying a visit, looking at engine oil leak at the same time.

Seems like the cat survived somehow .!!!!!
Rear valance is a little singed though.

i was wondering about the HT leads. Where are they so that i might do a visual check?
Also, it started to happen after an exceedingly heavy downpour, so just wondered if that might have anything to do with it. Will go out for a spin later to see if it is still doing it - i had her booked in for its MOT tomorrow so fingers crossed i can still get that done, then get it over to topcats to make sure it happens no more

Yep, or just general water everywhere. I've had it before driving down the motorway in really heavy rain. It cleared once the rain let up a bit though.

If any of your HT leads look dodgy, I've got an old part set sitting in the parents shed that your welcome to steal one from if you need to.

Good news - always nice getting your car back earlier than expected! I've just realised that today isn't Thursday, it is in fact Wednesday - and my car isn't actually going in until Friday! :mustsleepmore:

Gotta be careful when you get juddering in the engine, especially at high revs, can screw up a lot more, when ever you get engine juddering I recommend you poodle along!!!! until a techie has diagnosed the problem! I hope its a simple thing, fuel delivery/dodgy sensors/screwed pots/coils on the blink/shagged HT leads....
Maybe Andy4200 can come round and sort it out for you...?

Oh i dont know - these Cerberas! Went out for a good spin in her today and there was none of the shenanigans from yesterday, although i think the car runs distinctly louder (almost as if someone has sneakily fitted a sports exhaust without me knowing). I don't think she is running quite right, sometimes popping at the wrong times, so I will get it looked at.

But do you reckon it is still OK to drive her?

If it was water getting somewhere where it shouldn't, it may well have dried out now. Just a thought.

Thats what i was thinking/hoping . I think the engine is still running a little rough however. It is due its full service so I will ask the experts to give it a thorough going over

I believe I'm right in saying the HT leads are the red leads on top of the engine you can see on SXS's below.

I'd get it looked at asap. It won't cost much for a reset but if you carry on you may end up over fueling on one of the banks, could then lead to manifold problems etc. etc.

Get a set of Magnecours. £100 ish. Guaranteed for 10 years I think, and only slightly dearer than TVR's own.
