Hi Everyone,

Im just about to purchase a 4.5 Cerbera. Its the most money ive ever spent on a car and i want to try as best as possible to make my first TVR ownership as painless as possible.

Ive got my eye on an X reg registered lightweight model from an independant TVR dealer with 30 k on the clock.

This may all sound obvious to you guys, but bare with me.

Im going over to look at it and put a deposit down if im happy in the next few days.
can you guys give me some tips on what to look for--what recourse i will have if there are any problems with it once bought and wether i should push for a warranty and what type of warranty.

I did have my heart set on a Tuscan-- but after some of the polls on here-- ive decided i dont want to go with the straight 6 yet due to reliability issues.

any advice greatly appreciated

I think I've posted tonnes of negative comments on cerb ownership - so wont bother anymore...

only positive...

make sure you like the colour first!
second make sure you like the interior colour!
third - drive a few first!
fourth - be careful when buying from indies - ask who owned it before - and then speak to the previous owner if possible!

goodluck!

Okay, completely ignore the colour. I've never heard of a breakdown or warranty claim based on the colour.

Notice that for the same reason the interior colour is the next most useless thing to consider.

Indies are the best people to buy from as they live on their reputation rather than dealers who live on an advert in the yellow pages.

Go to local group meet, and start buying drinks to get a go in a few Cerbs. It might finally decide you on Cerbs or tuscans, and you'll pick up a lot of information very quickly.

, SXS you should always put a smiley after sarcasm

That was sarcasm wasn't it

Sarcasm? Hehe - I only had a few shots and a relaxing herbal remedy ...

but actually come to think of it - colour makes a big difference - because when you see them in a pack - you always notice that one stands out looking well nice and its always not the same as your colour... hehee....

my first one was stardust silver - and it looked fantastic - very beefy - the cascade one now looks much smaller - I think its to do with the way light reflects off brighter colours and gets pulled in by darker colours....

anyway - I'm bored!!!! I miss my cerbera soooooo bad!!!!!!

is anyone going anywhere this weekend? can I come???? I want to smell petrol - I want to hear the pops and bangs - damn it, the daily ride is like a boat!.... arrrrgggghhhhrrrrr

Recently found a car and agreed a price unseen based on what the owner had described, we then further agreed that this price would still be negotiable based on what an inspection threw up outside of what the owner knew of.

Rob Ingleby of www.findasportscar.co.uk did a thorough inspection (well worth it whether buying private/dealer), found a load more issues (which didn't bother me for the right price and the fact the car had a full history and most of the big jobs have been done) haggled some more and now have the car for what was a good price even with the list of known work.

Body colour and interior are only an issue if you find you need to sell (according to the trade ), I know I probably would have gone for a different colour combo if I'd been able to, but given budgets and cars available you can't always be choosey - having said that it has grown on me and it is a Cerbera which ever way you look at it

lol guys-- we are going off one one here.
colour and interior are different based on peoples personal preferance--- im much more interested in mechanical issues and warranties.

are the independdant warranties worth anything for the TVR? i heard most wont cover say for example the engine on a straight 6 due to `known` issues

Colour both exterior and interior have got to be high on the list, but obviously placed under a different category than mechanical issues. By all accounts do not just get one on colour combination alone (i guess you have already plumped for the colour anyway?) but take into account all factors and weight them accordingly.

Good luck

oh yeah course they are important--but they are my personal preference--im not saying colour doesnt matter--but i can make my own decision on colour and interior--weras not being a mechanic or reasonably mechanically minded or experienced with TVRs--i cannot make my own judgment on the mechanical side of it--just dont want to make a 30 grand mistake....

I think i need to pay for somone to come with me--anyone up in the northwest that anyone knows that would check it out?

Gareth how are you getting on? You don't seem to be getting far on this thread; have you done the search on buying to see what comes up? Most of the people that have posted on this thread are usually helpful.

I live in the NW but don't know of any Cerb owners that could help you. Joospeed is in Chesterfield and Shane of SFR is in Stockport. I'd contact them. The guy selling it may be Game for a warranty but even without it he will still have to Keep er... to consumer protection legislation. Good luck, Jonathan.
