Hiya

My car makes a high pitched ringing noise when I corner. Is this a (diff) problem?

It’s the misses screaming at you to go slower round the bends wink

What kind of ringing, a high frequency taping, or more squealing discs?

Doesn't sound like the diff, more likely something shifting under load to touch something moving. Possibly a brake disc/pad (what happens if you lightly apply the brakes when it is making the noise), possibly something on the engine touching(does the noise change if you declutch).

It reminds me of when a gf told me her car made a funny noise when the used the choke (yes it was that long ago). I couldn't fathom this till i had a go it turned out to be a bust starter ring gear. Warm engine = no choke and engine fire immediately with no noise. Cold engine = full choke and engine takes a while to fire = lots of noise. Hence choke makes funny noise.

Thanks for the ideas. I guess it would be more helpful if I explained why I thought diff. The noise definitely appears to come from the rear, discounting some of the ideas (although sounds in cars can often be hard to pinpoint the direction of origin I know)

The noise - it's not a tapping noise, it sounds like... A high pitched ringing noise. Kind of like a dropped ring on a tiled floor, but kind of like something is sliding and then stopping through a corner.

Does it sound like a Loose nut and the washer free to rattle?
Exhaust securing at back end?
Check the diff and carrier bolts, it's not unknown for the carrier to crack too.

Power steering fluid low by any chance. If its low you can get a high pitch noise when you corner.

That’s a point, wrong end, but it could be the woodruff key on the pump gone with the pulley spinning on the shaft.

When I first had mine all those moons ago I thought I had a diff problem but turned out to be the UJ on the steering. Sound is a bugger to find unless you've heard it before and sorted the problem.
