My car has been off the road for ages now (too long, I'm missing it) and I'm slowly getting around to getting the various things that need doing done to it.

One big issue is a fuel leak under the bonnet somewhere.

I went looking this evening expecting to find a cracked hose, etc but I can't see anything.

Obviously I don't want to start up the engine to see if I can spot where it's leaking from (I'd probably spot it just as the whole thing caught fire yikes )so I'm looking for pointers as to where I should start looking for a leak.

Do most of the leaks occur on the hoses or is it out between the injectors and the rail?

Anywhere else?

The plan is to replace all the hoses anyhow but I'm after extra places that leak (if there are any).

Fire extinguisher and put the ignition on.

You don't need to run the engine. The fuel pump will prime for 1-2 seconds when you first put the ignition on.

Yeah I've tried that Ridds but can see nothing.

I've been reading the other thread as well (hadn't seen it when I posted mine) and it looks like the things are starting to get pretty leaky at this stage.

Usual places are pretty much where any exposed hose is. frown

Under the header tank to the regulator and also the return from the cooler.
Front of fuel rail to fuel cooler

At the rear pump outlet to filter
filter to hard line in wheel arch.

Mine first went from the pump to the filter. Replaced the lot when that happened.

One thing try is drop the under tray and place some cardboard under the car. Locate where the puddle appears and then track upwards!

The hidden place is where the pipe comes in underneath the expansion tank. Also have a look at the injectors where they go into the rail. Given the bits you have to move to get at the pipes you might as well replace them anyway.

If the hoses have got to the age where they have started to crack and leak anywhere, then its time to bite the bullet and replace them all!
