finally run out of ability as far as welding two old rear boxes together. Every year a few more patches till this year just before th mot its all started to leak.

I run linked decats into a standard rear backbox but not sure if anyones selling the rear boxes anymore. Don't really like the sound of sports exhausts and often use brand hatch so don't anything too loud.

If not what the closest fully mot able system worth getting?

I believe from what I have read is that ACT are developing a standard rear box

I was quoted £650 for a full CAT back system from Demand Engineering near Ipswich. They have done a Cerb before mine and did a standard type backbox for it with choice of tails.. Very nice chaps as well.

Hi

There has been a thread on this recently - if you search my past posts you will find it.

Essentially act have put alot of development into a stainless oem-style backbox. Their stated price however is 795 + vat.

Personally this was too much for me hence I had a custom system commissioned. I am sure it might not be as free-flowing as the act one and therefore might rob bhp. However it was 45% of the cost.

Funnily enough I have just taken the big backbox off for the sports small thermos flask size cherry bomb style exhaust. the reason being I was in the convoy last weekend to Sherbourne & I was sat there engine on idle & a Viper next to me started up & I had to look at my rev counter to make sure mine was still running!

My boy just tig welded all the seams & it was fairly quiet.

Not sure God's tig ability would be up to the state of my current rear box.

The ACT system with teh rear box and long pipes attached looks like the danglies.

Anyone got one and had any experience of it?

ACT not answering their phones today.

I always though the very best system was the linked decats added to the rear box that had been altered to take the diversions out.

Not particularly from the performance view but from the sound view. It woul dbe nice to have someone confirm this before I spend £800 on one frownsmile

I got one (The new ACT backbox) but with standard center pipe.
My old system was the standard sport exhaust.
And I'm very happy with the ACT backbox, I think I lost about 20db at idle and it was what I needed, also the sound note at high rev is better than before.
I don't now if the Cherrybomb center pipe is a further improvment or not but it was £200 more expensive than just the back box.

And for the linked decat from what I heard it's a good improvement for a 2,25 or 2,5" exhaust but it act weird on a 3"exhaust. I guess it depend if you plan to buy the 3" ACT manifold or not.

I have moved from sports tails
To a 2.5" act system with new style back box.
Quite at idle, more low down burble.
No more headaches on long journeys.
Very impressed, no more wheel barrow tail pipes.
Jools sorted it. Super service.

For those interested I splurged on an ACT rear box and intermediate pipes.

Its the big bore quiet system.

Nice chap, Just started to put the bits together this evening to look at the fit, but already bust one of the clamps frown

Stainless steel is tough stuff and quite happy to bust the clamp rather than clamp the pipe.

After all Tim was saying about it I'm interested to hear what its gonna sound like.

biggrin Nice to know I'm not the only one, I broke two and I was afraid to tight the other after that, so I changed them all...

This is useful to know, we have only just switched to stainless band clamps, due to customer requests and they look so nice compared with standard exhaust U clamps, maybe we should go back to the U clamps then.

Julian I will post some to you tomorrow.

Absolutely right, the band clamps are too pretty not to use.

The TVRDean Backbox came with these good looking clamps, they certainly appear less crude than U clamps, but I'm no expert.

The bolt on these clamp is not strong enough so it blend and then it break...
I tried the same with bigger bolt and then it was the circle that break (at the jonction with the bolt) so I find some old style U clamp...
