I am looking to change the coil over units on my car due to the car being very twitchy on the steering and when cornering it feels like it is sitting onto the opposite back tire, i.e. when turning left it feels like it is squatting on the back right. This isn't hard cornering, the slightest movement of the steering wheel makes the car dart in that direction and swat on the opposite rear tyre, it also suffers from some bump steer and tramlining.
Looking through the forums I can see some recommendations and have been looking at the GAZ range, whats the real difference between the GHA, Nickel and Gold? Nitrons are outside my price range.
My car is going to be a road going GT car and is standard 4.2 with 16" Spiders, I might well take it on the track but its going to be used on mainly A and B roads with distances on the motorway network.
What do people recommend? for road use are 500lb front and 450lb rear springs going to be too hard?
Help, advice and peoples experiences sought to help me make a decision.
Thanks

I have 500/450 (on Nitrons also with 16" wheels) on my Cerb for sprinting. It does make it a very firm road ride indeed. Unless you are focused on track use I would go softer. Having changed shocks from Gaz - I would save up the extra for Nitrons without question!

I have exactly the same spring rates as this on Nitrons and 18" spiders, and have retained the rear anti roll bar.

I am very happy with this, but I like the rather harsh go-kart feel of the road, so probably a bit harsh for most I would say.

i asked the same question on the cerb facebook group, and Nitrons won hands down according to the replies, so Nitrons it will be with Eibach springs.

Thanks for the replies so far, so spring wise 500/450's are probably going to be a bit hard for A and B road driving unless I want it to handle like a go-kart, another reason I was tempted by the stiffer spring setup was when 2 up with luggage I would still have some clearance on the wheels and speed humps, at present 200kgs of luggage and fuel does make the back end squat. lol
I did look at the protechs but I dismissed them after a couple of people said to me they start off really good but after a couple of years they seam to drop off/ don't seam to last, any experience of this problem?
The nitron's are double the price and if I were going to use for track day they would be on my list but are the GAZ not any better than the standard bilstein suspension is this not a good middle ground?
Why have owners ditched the GAZ shocks? why not have them rebuilt if they are starting to fail?

The no name and shame rule dictates that I do not comment other than to say that I consider Nitrons to be worth every penny.

Don't forget that the reason people pay big money for Nitrons and Ohlins is because they take longer to overheat and go soft.

I'm very happy with my £450 Protechs because I don't do long stints on track, I'm worn out long before the shocks.

+1 for Nitrons and getting them set up properly by Neil Garner also cured the bump steer.

I'm running new Bilstein shocks and eibach springs 285/230 and it rides lovely for a gt car. Very smooth, and also capable for a trackday too. GAZ, I'm afraid are no where near the quality, you do get what you pay for.
I will reserve my opinions on scrimping on a supercar........

Car goes in to have the newly serviced INTRAX refitted tomorrow. I've been running on a set of standard shocks fo a month which has reminded me just how good good shocks are, and not only for track. The damping and rebound is miles ahead.

Check down the back of our sofa just in case smile

I run the later Gaz Gold Pros and to be honest I don't have a problem, mine is set pretty stiff but the ride quality is perfectly acceptable. If I was in the market for new ones today I would seriously consider Protechs as endorsed by many Noble owners.

285/230 seams very soft, I do like Bilsteins but was wanting something adjustable so could tune it to my taste but ultimately if they are setup right then it would save a lot of time and hassle. I have been looking at the Protech's in more detail as they have been recommend by quite a few posts, they come with 400 front and 300 rear as the standard setup is this what most are using?

I run Gaz on mine and it seems to do rather well on road and track. Perhaps I would be a touch faster if I upgraded. biggrin
