Immobiliser contact switch

I am trying to remove the immobilizer contact switch (override receptacle) from my car as it is no longer used and i want to use the hole for something else. Understandably it is not easy to get at and although I can feel the back of it i cant work out how it comes off. Can anyone who has access to a centre console rear view tell me what the back looks like.

There is a plastic locking ring that threads onto it from the back.

Once removed the receptacle can be pushed out

I am afraid I don't have any pictures, but the receptacle is held in place by a ring that screws onto the back of it on the rear of the carpeted panel. you will have to remove the wire from under the centre console (or cut it) to get it out it.

Thanks very much, once I could see it was a tube it was no problem.

Just to show the result 2 x USB power outlets now in the slot were the key was, the switch and LED to the left are for the alarm/immobilizer.

I hope the battery in your fob doesn't give up the ghost ;-)

I would relocate the immobiliser override to somewhere that you can get at it as it can be the only way to disable the immobiliser if it gets confused about the fobs.

The original alarm has been replaced so the contact switch wasn't doing anything. Having said that i am not sure what of the original wiring is still used so I have not actually removed the contact switch just tucked it out of the way.

tbh it's 99% down to the way it's installed.

They're pretty battery hungry too.

Ridds, thanks for putting my mind at rest, that backs up what I had heard. It was installed by the previous owner who happened to run an alarms business so I guess he put it in properly. Previous experience is that the battery drain takes about 3 weeks before it becomes critical but mine is always plugged into a CTEK these days.
