Just got back from a nice trip to France to see that the temp gauge had moved into the area where the oil pressure gauge operates . It had been fine for the whole trip - its was just as I went up the drive (at least she got me home).

Seems the fans aren’t running.

Let it cool down and checked the water. All OK. Took the front cover off and checked the fan connections. All OK. Pulled the cable off the temp sensor and the fans come on. Can I safely assume that the Temp sensor is faulty, or do I need to check the ECU.

I've read posts about disconnecting the ECU to reset it, but I have no idea where it is. Should I try this approach as well.

If it is the temp sensor, any ideas where to get one at a good price?

Chris,

This sounds like the temperature sensor has packed up.
You have to remove the panel in front of the engine to get to it. The sensor simply unscrews.

I paid about £12.00 from Peninsula TVR for mine.

I hope this helps.

I have a similar problem and have had for some time. The temperature reading is generally fine until heavy traffic or prolonged stationary idling. Then the temperature gauge winds it’s self around the pressure gauge above. In my case, the fans are operating ok so I have been led to believe my problem is the capillary tube associated with the temperature gauge giving false readings.

Check whether the fans do actually come on at idle, it may just be a gauge problem.

Eventually got it done. £12 from Penninsula (although they let my wife have it for £11 as she didn't have the correct change ). Silverstone now have some in stock too.

I took some pictures incase anyone else fancies doing it themselves. Also a nice chance to cover up those bits of suspension with cracking paint. That front engine cover can hide alot of nasties.

I checked the old unit with the multimeter. I got 7 ohms when cold, moving to 0 (i.e straight through) when at 100oC). This looks OK to me, but obviously there was something the ECU didn't like.

Thanks for the help.
