2003 speed six power steering issue
Discussion
As assumed and unfortunately confirmed the new Cerb has its first problem, no power steering!
My mechanic, although wonderful and very skilled has no TVR experience.
He asked me for some parts diagrams and look as I did, cant find anything.
Anyone have a suggestion where I can purchase?
In the mean time, can anyone gleam some insight on what goes where and what seems to be missing off the attached picture?
Initially the low pressure hose was entirely gone, temp installed in pic and there seems to be 2 missing hoses on the 2 pump.
On the positive, the emmisions are nearly zero so that should pass inspection, assuming we get the other bits sorted.

Thanks for reading,
ScottyO

You should also check the universal joints in the driver's side wheelarch (there are two). These can seize up and give similar symptoms to power steering failure.
They can be cleaned up with a wire brush, squirted with WD40 to remove the grime and re-greased (best done with front wheels off the ground).

Arigato!
I'll poke around there on tomorrows visit to the sleeping giant.
Got my penetrating oil and wire brushes at the ready!
Todays visit besides being told of the steering, I added some gas, or should I say petrol and the entire cap and neck spun out into my hand.
Made it easy as my gas can spout wouldn't have fit into the little spring loaded flap, so I cleaned up and siliconed it in place.
Find out tomorrow if its holding.
Im amazed no water got in there already.
Cant wait to actually get her on the streets,

The missing hoses are the supply lines to either end of the rack.
Braided hose with banjo fittings on the rack body ends.
If you don't have them with the car you'll have to get them shipped from TVR Power or similar. Or it's going to mean getting a hydraulic hose manufacturer to remake them for you. You will probably have to source the fittings and banjo bolts.
This is what the hose looks like, there should be 2 one short one long.

For your own safety I would suggest getting someone who knows what they are looking at with TVRs to check it over. Missing PAS hoses and loose fuel fillers are not a good start to a car that only has a couple of cosmetic issues.. There are quite a few TVR owners in Japan, they must all get their cars fixed somewhere.

Sounds dangerous, get it attached properly. What is the proper way?
I'll get back in there and fix it soon.
Thanks for the reply,

I’m going to email TVR power and Racing Green the pictures and hope they can sort out what parts we need.
I'm already planning on getting the filters, plugs, spark wires, decat pipes, seals and what not from which ever company wants to work with me.
Speaking of, assuming you were on an isolated island with your Cerbie Speed Six, what parts would you guys and gals order and keep handy?
The garage the car is at now is about as good as it gets around here. I'm sadly not too knowledgeable about England so I don’t have a similar place to compare Okinawa to but I can say in my 20+ years of living here, I've only seen 1 other Cerbera about 10 years ago and no TVR dealers, no TVR authorized service centers. I'm trying to live the dream, heck, even if its a nightmare I want it. I'm giddy with each look of the car. So far, the Pistonhead Peeps have been friendly and helpful so I'm hopeful.
Thank you for your reply and helpful information,
ScottyO
Filler neck should have 2 jubilee clips on it, one on the tank neck, one on the filler neck. It's then siliconed to the body to stop water leaks into the boot. As you're going to struggle to find anything in Japan and shipping is going to be a BIG part of your costs I'd probably look at getting the following in as spares (you've already identified some of these). As for dealers, there are none in the UK, just a few independents.
Big fuse
Big fuse holder
Fuel Filter
Oil Filter
Air Filter
Spark plugs (pop down the road to NGK as they'll only be shipping them back to the country of origin!)
Plug Leads
Lambda sensors
Throttle pots
Diff input and output seals
Set of brake pads (maybe discs depending on how worn yours are)
Handbrake shoes
Front suspension drag link bushes
Set of clutch slave seals and a Master cylinder
Depending on how flush you're feeling a clutch?
The main one, a selection of valve shims and get your mechanic reading up on how to check them. This is going to be your biggest issue I'd say, keeping on top of valve train wear and getting the engine rebuilt "before" anything nasty happens.
Those would be items I'd pick that could stop you having fun for not a lot of cost (bar the clutch that is). A lot of other consumable things you should be able to find locally.
Going by the current condition of your car I would have a good check over of the fuel lines as these are known to perish.
Also, before connecting your PAS back up, check if there is any damage inside the main electric pump as if this hasn't had oil in and has been running will be full of swarf inside which will wreck your rack seals pretty quick. I suspect the reason your rack isn't connected though is due to it leaking already? If you need to get that rebuilt your in for a lot of fun!!
Form personal experience you should have little issue with either part supplier. I tend to use Racing Green as they are a little keener on prices but make sure they triple check the order before they ship as they have forgotten things on my orders a couple of times.

Thank you Ridds.
Working on the powersteering issues first so it will pass inspection and get it plated.
After that, I'll get the extras bits on order and keep reading and learning about TVR's.
If anyone else is following this thread, would you add to or remove from the suggested parts list above?
Thank you all for reading and have a great day,
ScottO

As has been said you are missing two braided hoses for the power steering. A short braided hose from the bottom of the pump to the middle of the rack and a longer hose from the top of the pump to the passengers side of the steering rack.
This information is only relavant if you have the Steering rack TVR H/0247( marked on the steering rack facing upwards)

Strangely enough... This information is only relavant if you have the Steering rack TVR H/0247( marked on the steering rack facing upwards)
Took the picture earlier today after making some room in the engine bay.
I can feel the love. Hopefully can get the steering in order, pass inspection, get plates and finally take her for a cruise around the island.
Thank you for the reply!
