Hi all,

I want to recolour my steering wheel to smarten it up and I think this would be best done with the steering wheel out of the car.

I don't want to find out the hard way that I did it wrong by damaging the ribbon cable, so I thought I'd ask if anyone knows the correct way to remove it before have a go myself.

Thanks in advance!

Jamie

Undo Allen head bolts.. Remove steering wheel. Remove connectors, noting which ones go where.

... or you could just do a Track Day at Spa after having had a service.

Mine came off in my hand whilst negotiating Les Fagnes.
Didn't bring a smile to my face.
yikes

That does sound bothersome, I must admit.

Jamie be very carefull with the electrical connectors as they can be a bugger if you damage any of them when taking it off or putting it back together. I take it you know that Kevin (Aberdeen Tuscan2 owner) does re-colouring etc. He's done the steering wheels from both of my Cerbs.

Hi Barry - I didn't know that actually. Could you email me his contact details if you have them?

I have finally got round to doing this. I should really have changed trailing arm bushes on another car but it was too late to start that last night and I wanted to do something.

Fairly grubby looking...

After cleaning with alcohol.

I thought life would be easier if I removed the bits with the buttons.

I used the Furniture Clinic touch up kit with ivory base colour and tints. I'm happy with this colour match. The wheel has been coloured but the spokes are original colour.

Finisher applied. I went 50/50 matt and gloss. It's maybe a touch on the matt side but it looks much better than it did before. I'll get it refitted after breakfast and then crack on with those trailing arm bushes.

Ready to go back in now smile

Thanks Scott. I bought new button stickers a while back too but have accidently packed them away for the forthcoming house move.

Incidently, this will be my new garage biggrin I'm looking forward to moving in next month and getting a 2-poster or similar in there! It already has power and water which is great.
