I had to get my car on the track and prove its perfmormance against things that actually meant something. So.................

Yesterday was run what ya brung day at Santa Pod, running my 99 4.5v8 in standard trim except for a de-cat! I did 6 runs against these cars:
1) Nissan Skyline (engine rebuilt to exceed 700bhp)
2) porsche 911 (996) Turbo
3) 7litre Mk 1 Cortina
4) Honda Civic Type R (modified with something but got bored listening)
5 & 6) Escort RS Turbo

You will all be happy to hear every finish slip said finish 1st!!!!!!

The close one was the 911 Turbo who was actually 8thousandths of a sec quicker on the quarter but had a 1tenth slower reaction time!

Best time was 12.81 @ 111mph
Worst time was 12.95 @ 106mph

Going again on Sunday!!!!!!!!!

How cool is that! .

Nice one, I live round the corner from Santapod but have never been.

Your times are excellent and they're some proper scalps there .

Shame about the Skyline . Really like them but I can't help thiking that if they're not tuned sensibly then they're just grenade engines.

Congratulations !

12.8 is a very respectable time, even more so at this time of year in a RWD car !

Did you drop the tyre pressures, or were you running standard road pressures ?

Vids would be great - oliver.gausden@csfb.com

Thanks

I will send all vids today. I was running standard tyre pressures, no modifications for the track whatsoever!

The funny thing was that the guy with the skyline said, "I like TVR's but they are not quick enough!" And then i thrashed him up the track!!!

hahahahahee - I hope you got that on film too!

If you set up the nitrons for drag and put some wider tyres on with less pressure - and you master the traction and take-off - I do believe whole heartidly - that it is very possible to get into the 11's and maybe even late 10's moreso with the RR cerb.

I do not have nitrons, only standard suspension from TVR at present.

Will be changing when i have recovered and got the money to do it, along with a nitrous upgrade too!

Ok, instead of emailing the pics, i have uploaded them to the following site:

www.damagedtvrs.co.uk/s4rcy.htm

The video's are not high quality, all taken from a digital camera, but everyone is welcome to download them!

The guy with the camera turned up after my first race which was against the Skyline, so didnt get that one!

BUT, there was a professional photographer there and he will have some quality pics and hopefully one of me way ahead. When that comes, i will scan and post that too!!

PS, if anyone still wants me to email the vids then let me know!

Hehe, before you know it - every serious cerbie owner will have a laughing beast!

Hey, if you want, I can install a full NOS setup for you for £650 - all inclusive with a digital controller.

Great result and impressive times IMHO .
Any 'drag artists' out there that can explain the relationship between time and terminal speed . Did a little bit of dragging in the summer and got a 13.79 @ 110mph with me little V8S. Very close to the terminal speed above but quite a bit slower on the time front .

Acceleration isn't a constant for all cars. To take an extreme example, it's possible to potter down the track at 1mph in a top fuel dragster and then hit the gas 50m from the end of the track to get an terminal speed of over 100mph, but the elapsed time will be in minutes

Take into account gear changes, engine characteristics, torque and power curves etc... it can be easy to get confused as to how some cars can be going quicker at the end but take more time.

So (without thinking about this much) does that mean that during some points of the run the S accelerated quicker than the Cerb?

Also without thinking about it too much.. I would say the the S had quicker acceleration, but gear changes / intial pull away were worse?

Don't know, all i know is that i was the quickest car there and to beat the 911 Turbo was a right result. Also, that time was in summer?? This may make a difference on initial take off? The racing didnt start for ages as they had to remove water from the track for ages with the turbine.

If anyone is interested, i will photograph the result slips and post them so everyone can see the 60ft, 330ft, 1/8th and quarter results? May help analysis! Although, the fact i was fastest is enough for me!!!
