A good friend of mine if finally looking to purchase a Cerbera. He gave me a lift many years ago when I bought my first TVR, a decatted, sports exhaust 4.5 Cerbera. I think following me home listening to the Cerbera popping and banging started his desire to own one one day. That day is finally coming.

Trouble is there doesn't seem to be much choice. Looking for V8 (4.2 or 4.5) around 10-13k budget there is only:

0 on Autotrader (in fact 0 V8 cars regardless of budget)
2 4.2 on ebay (but both less desirable colours)
1 4.2 on preloved
1 4.2 on TVR webmart
0 on gumtree
5-6 4.2 on here.

OK the budget isn't great and there is some choice but this seems like a bit of a low point in Cerberas available (and not one 4.5 in range). I do admit the budget is too low for a 4.5 as they still seem to command a premium.

Does anyone know of other sources to find available cars or if anyone has anything that fits the criteria they are thinking of parting with I would be happy to hear from you.

We plan on picking out a few contenders and then making a road trip to visit them in the next few weeks to hopefully buy one.

The problem with low price cars is they need high price work.

£500 over budget but this one just has to be worth a look for your friend, especially if he doesn't want to sink a lot more in to doing everything this car has had done?

Yes, that one is the best I have seen advertised at the price level we are at.

I know whenever people come on here asking about buying a car and they have say 12k 90% of advice is get more money first. That is probably right but I still believe you can find an OK car at that price range. Whether or not you should be able to find a decent Cerbera that that price is another discussion.

Having owned TVR's for a while and all the work I have been doing rebuilding the 4.5 I currently have I know enough to stop him from buying a dog...hopefully. Unlike most people that come on here and say "I've always loved the Cerbera and now I have 12k to buy one" but know nothing about them I expect to spend a good few hours potentially under/over any car we buy ensuring everything is as it should be within reason. As I found out, even something that sounds simple like a worn diff bush can be a pig to fix.

Yes there might not be a decent car in this price range but in that case we just won't buy yet. People can always save more and buy a better car but the situation is currently buy a car at this level in the next few weeks or just keep waiting and saving.

I doubt you will find one that betters the example jamie posted. That's a very good price. He certainly won't get a 4.5 for that money unless most of the car is in boxes.

If it's as good as it sounds it's a bargain but still have those extra notes for things that will need sorting.

Just seen a 15k requiring 3k to 4k of work.

Beanzy don't be such a pillock. Take yourself outside now, strip off the shirt and birch yourself until you either bleed or come to your senses.

As above, don't do it Ian! At least drive it down to Spa at the weekend and if you still want to sell, check yourself into the nearest mental institution. After doing the thing with the birch tree.

We're planning our roadtrip.

We are going to view a few cars tomorrow but depening on time/conditions we would like to be able to fit in a couple more. Here is the rough route/search area for tomorrow, if you have or know of a V8 Cerbera for sale in this area then please let me know.

Thanks.

Hi Tim

I am in Swindon with a '96 Pearl Blue/biscuit interior 4.2 which I had intended to advertise very soon.

You are welcome to have a look any time and it's not too far off your route.

PM me if you're interested and I'll send you my phone number.

Cheers

Ed
