After just two weeks of Cerb ownership - my clutch has gone.

I was sitting waiting at a roundabout (clutch down) when all of a sudden it drove off, possessed I thought, oh no I've bought a devil car (Halloween and all that)!

Then I realised that I couldn't change gear either managed to limp it to the in-laws and called the RAC who diagnosed deadclutchitis so low loader later and back to the dealers - good job its under warranty

I'm assuming that car driving off when clutch depressed and not being able to select gears when in neutral is a dead clutch ?

How long does it take to change a clutch (4.5) ?

Sounds like slave or master to me. Is there any fluid around the pedal? id there is then its the master, this is the cheaper and easier option.

If not then could be the slave, looking at about £600.

I am not too sure about the fingers on the clutch, could be those.

Thanks for the replies guys,

Couldn't see any fluid anywhere not by the pedals and certainly not on the father in law's driveway - he'd have hated fluid on the drive I can tell you !

Its in Gorner's now and they've given me a Chim as replacement so will have to wait for the Monday phone call to see what happened. I'm sure the service book said clutch assembly repaired in May whatever a clutch assembly is that is !

If there is no fluid it could be the same as what happened to mine - the seals had gone, and i got a new master at the same time just for good measure. If it is the seals only, it should'nt take too long

Sorry to hear about the clutch Mike. Not wishing to top your story but bought my car from an independent dealer and my clutch went as soon as I had got it home - after only 1 hour. Typical eh? I phoned up and whinged like hell and he agreed to get it fixed. Slave had gone and there was a snag with the a/c so I managed to get £850 of servicing out of him. Fantastic except the clutch itself needed replacing 6 months later!

Ho hum. Flash
