.....and another thing....!

Right, now the clutch is fixed the drivers door isn't playing properly.

It's refusing to acknowledge that the door is closed (Window not closing fully, interior lights staying on) and as a result (I think), the alarm is going off about five minutes after I lock the car.

Upon investigation there appears to be a sensor type thingy in the passenger side sill, and a hole in the drivers side where it would appear that a sensor type thingy once was.

Somebody please tell me there is an easy, cheap, simple fix for this (further) infuriating problem.

Thank you.

On my car, the sill has a magnet in it that a sensor in the door picks up.

So you might need to replace the magnet, where you're going to get one from though......

Maybe a small magnet on the senor might be enough to enable you to lock the car.

Where's the sensor?

Is that the screw thingy attached to the bottom of the door?

Yes, there are a few threads with more detail. To get to the sensor you need to remove the door panel, not a big job.

There should have been a nut holding the sensor in place so it seems as if the nut has fallen off and the sensor has dropped inside the door. Whip the panel off by removing 5/6 bolts around the outside of the door. You should see the sensor lying on the bottom of the door. Pop it back through and put another nut on. The nut tightens the sensor against the door so by loosening the nut you can adjust the amount the sensor protrudes (and whether or not the magnetic effect works) to tell the door controller your door is closed. Should be fairly simple to do, finding another nut might be the hard part.

Good luck

I dont want to teach you to suck eggs but make sure you start off the sdjustment at it minimum. If you have it sticking out too far you will puncher the sensor on the sill of the car,

Now I'm confused.I don't think there's anything amiss with the door, but there is a hole in the sill where, I believe, the magnetic sensor once was (but isn't anymore)

Why have I got to take my door panel off?

Ah! Thats my fault for not reading your orignal post!

Sorry

If its the sensor in the sill then i would guess that it has fallen into the sill. I will just go and look how to get to it!

ok, done.

Put the drivers seat fully forward and tip the back of the seat forward. Take the carpet away from the area where the sill is, you may neet to reomove the trim from the weather sill. stick ur hand in and you shoud be able to feel the hole. feel about and find the sensor, where it has fallen through, should have a couple of wires attached.

check its not damaged. Now you need to stick it back in, I would suggest superglue to get you out of trouble or something like sealant maybe. Nothing too strong as you 'may' have to replace it sometime.

Let me know how you get on.

I know your problem seems to be the magnet in the cill, but for reference, below is a photo of the switch at the bottom of the door, and the connector going to it (uncoupled in the photo).
