Ok quick background. I am planning my first track day ever let alone in the Cerbera. The TDO have been brilliant so far and I don't want to get then in trouble and have to pay a penalty due to me. I have a 4.2, de cat and sports pipes 2.5 inch.
I have herd about the DB killer inserts but have been warned about pressure build up and possible engine damage, is this true? If not could you combine the inserts with external bolt ons for extra deadening? Anyone with a similar system know what their DB level is?
I have a few weeks to get this sorted and I an booked in at a local race garage for an accurate noise test. Target level for this track day is 98db drive by.

Cheers

Inserts are unlikely to be restrictive enough to cause any problems and its hard to see what damage they would do the the engine even if they were. I havn't seen bolt on cans that could be used in addition to inserts - mine certainly can't.

My 4.2 with decats and sports exhaust was in the region of 128 dB(A)!! Inserts made no measurable difference, bolt on cans cut that down by about 8-10 dB, putting the cats back in knocked another 5-6 dB off but fitting a standard back box and keeping the decats reduced it to 98/99dB which was fine for track use for sprinting.

Great info thankyou very much. So looks like the back box is the way to go then. As said this will be my first track day. Really don't know how I will take to it, well I hope. I have sourced a standard back box for £250 but was wondering if there was anyone in the West Yorkshire/ Derbyshire area who may have a spare one I could borrow/rent for a weekend.

Feeling less than hopeful but you never know unless you ask.

Just to add - all the figures I quoted were static readings. You can probably get away with a bit more on drive-by. Just don't get black flagged and waste your day.

Make the most of your day and get some instruction organised there if you can - it's money well spent. As a TD newbie you're better to start off properly in the first place than trying to break bad habits later. It's not simply a case of ragging it round all day at full chat! wink Enjoy biggrin

Don't use inserts, tried that, and it strangles the engine. Put the cats back in and you should pass a 98 drive by. If you are worried, keep revs below 4k, use the torque of the engine, and avoid full throttle near the sound meter

I managed with just sports tails to pass using this method, and was still the fastest car on track!

Welcome to borrow my spare like new rear box. I believe it's a 4.2 standard box. No idea what the internals are like and therefore the db. Per emails you can collect most weekends.
