I put one of my AVO's back on last night to give it a test as it looked a little worse for wear. It isn't leaking but nor is it a shock absorber any more - it is seized solid. I can't believe somebody was driving around on those less than two years ago (during which time it has been off the road). They may as well have replaced the shocks with a steel bar.

Anyway - does anyone have any old ones knocking about they have been planning on getting rid of? I'm not looking for 'like new' or nitrons (unless the price if right) so long as they are in generally good working order and will provide some shock absorption. I will be buying new at some point next year but would like to stick on something that works OK for now (not leaking) and will pass the MOT.

Can the Avo's be rebuilt?
The dampers are just as important as brakes, knackered ones will send you to an early grave.(possibly someone else for that matter)

I understand you a laid a lot out with the recent work. To put olds ones on for the MOT means you intend to drive on the road. I think safety would be compromised and you enjoyment of the car unless you can source a pair at least or all four in serviceable condition.

Hope I'm not sounding like a killjoy; safety first on car capable of very high speeds.

I think i have a set of Gaz that I replaced due to them constantly squeaking ...... No leaks, and they passed an mot shortly before I removed them last year.
If they'd help you out you're welcome to them but I need to check they're still in the garage.

Sounds good let me know if you find them.

To be clear on my motivations I'm not looking to kill myself in the car but I do need to watch my spend on it. Although I have always joked about going out in a tvr shaped fireball!

They were on my Cerbera when I bought it, they are totally serviceable but they do squeak!
I have a full set ( sure they are in the garage loft ) bare in mind mine is a Sp6 ..... Sure the rears would be the same but not sure about the fronts.
I'll check tomorrow and let you know, I don't want anything for them but you'd have to collect or pay the postage ..... Heavy buggers to post!

That would be great - joking aside I haven't driven this car yet so my motivation is to get it on the road and find out if I have any major issues before I plough several more k into the rebuild. What I didn't want to do was spend several thousand and then discover I have a big issue which I could have prioritised had I know about it.

I doubt I would hear any squeaking over the engine noise!
