I've heard such cars do exist and are regularly sold at that kind if price in the trade.

However, in my opinion a poor enthusiast will become a lot poorer when you consider the running costs.

I wouldn't want to see the servicing bill for such a car when you consider the things that will have worn out. A clutch replacement could easily add £1200 quid to that.

Personally I wouldn't risk running a Cerbera on a budget, it won't be a pleasant experience!

I reckon a Cerbera will cost at least 20-25k over 2 years no matter how much the initial purchase cost is.

Is that on top of the purchase price or do you mean 18k to buy and 2-7k worth of repairs/upgrades. I hope so, otherwise I fear your mechanic is a rich man and your rather gullable.

I sort of understand where DJ is coming from (worst case scenario and all that) - for a budget purchase price - the running costs could escalate quite dramatically... pick up a ferrari for 20k - and see how much it costs to keep her running - and then you'll see the reasoning behind DJ's comment...

Byff, btw, wheres that castle located? the one you used as a backdrop for the cerb pictures - I might be interested in using the same scenary for future photo shoots...

I did mean including the purchase price. I.e you could buy an 20k sorted car (i.e. a lowish mileage, sorted shocks, clutch etc) and pay for two services or you could buy a 14k car then pay a load on maintainance.

When considering resale, I reckon a cheap Cerb is a false economy, especially when you're looking at the very early cars.

Agree with _dj_ et al.

Buy one for £10k, and you could easily pay the same again within 18 months on bills. Hell, I spent £10k in a year on it with nothing more than a fuse blowing on maintenance and "standard" upgrades.

Would suggest considering a Chim at that kind of money. At least the bills will be lower, then.

Erm, he already has one of those (or so his profile says!).

I assumed he was looking to add a small amount to his existing car to upgrade.

D'oh! That'll teach me for not looking. In that case, I'd stick with the Chim, or chip in a bit for a nice Griff.

Cerb running costs are likely to be double that of a Chim/Griff...

They're great to run. Bills are just a lot higher... custom engine, scarcer, etc.

A service alone will cost you about an extra £200 on a Cerb over a Chim (assuming you use somewhere like Fernhurst). Bigger wheels = much bigger tyre bills, too. £200 or so per corner for an S03 from a dealer (admittedly, Proxes ordered off the 'Net will be more like £120 per corner). You'll be incredibly lucky to maintain the car for under <£1k per year. And should really budget for £3k PA (even though it'll hopefully not come to that)...

It's a place called Hylton castle in Sunderland. Time Team did a program on it a few years ago and turns out it's really a fancy gateway to a manor house. The manor house is long gone but the gate survives.

It's surrounded by council estates now

I've seen his mechanic driving around in a bling'd out bimma, and his body clad with platinum jewelry and a fat cuban in the pocket his silk shirt.... trust me, rich is a lesser word for this mechanic!

BTW, I'm pleased someone actually looked at my website. I know it's not much but I'm still learning this t'internet malarky and tried to update it with no success so more or less forgot about it.

One day I might get round to making it look proper. I know how I want it to look, but from thought to programming it gets all fumbled.

And I'm far from gullable

Having said that Joolz's place of residence is far larger than mine and much more modern (open plan) and his garage typically has much nicer cars in it than mine.

Having said that, he really should stop sleeping at work
