Cerbera Priceing?
Discussion
Hi All,
Considering buying a cerb as a replacement for my recently sold chimeara.Scanning the classifieds show's the widest variety of prices i have ever seen 97/98 cars advertised for anything between £16 and £25k. Okay i relise theirs differences for mileages specs wheels etc but such a difference?.
What can I expect to pay for a sorted 97/98 4.2 or 450 with spiders and headlight conversion?
Any other advise would be gratefully recieved

Generally speaking - if you buy one thats done a certain amount of miles and hasnt had much of a history of problems - then all the problems will land on your plate when they do get round to happening...
For a good 4.5 99+ I'd budget 25k. For a good 4.2 97+ I'd budget 18k.
But there have been examples of good ones for less...
If its a private sale and he aint a pistonheader - then be weary - very weary!... if its trade - try and get the previous owners contact details and drop him a call/email, before picking it up - even if it has warranty...

With the Chimaera went down the route of the private sale and found a good car that i knew i would still have to spend £2k on over a year to get right. No longer have access to a reliable relatively cheap mechanic so was hopeing to find a car that was relatively sorted and only required visiting a dealership or independant a couple of times a year.
Am I being realistic?

You may be lucky, but I wouldn't bank on it. If you look at many of the stories posted, an average owner will spend £2k to £3k per year and have the car out of action for 3 to 5 weeks. It is not the same ownership prospect as a Chimera, but that is also true on the postive side also!! (Sorry, no offence to any Chimera owners out there.....)
BTW I presume you're reading the 'First Time Cerbera Wanted' thread aswell. Lots of relevant info in there.

Is that really the case for most owners??? Mine was off the road for a week for the first service (cos I could only drop it off/pick it up at weekends due to work that week - service was done in a day), 1 day for having the Nitrons put on (upgrade), 1 week for having the front-end conversion done (upgrade), and 2 days for the second service, as I had them do some work on it at the same time. So, really, 3 days of it not being "driveable".
I concur James...
Been off the road for:
3 days - slave cylinder
5 weeks - complete respray and cosmetics (at my choice and time of choosing). I was away for 4 weeks of that.
Apart from servicing and upgrades/repairs that I wanted done that makes about 10 days forced off the road in 18 months give or take.

I may still have a touch of the rose tinted spectacles and it has still cost me a reasonable whack in outlay but about half of what I've paid has been because I had a spot of upgraditis. Hopefully by the new year I'll have satisfied that urge.
